BIG BEAR LAKE: The trout bite has remained very good on one to 1 1/2-pound rainbows with a few bigger. Trolling has been excellent from the Observatory to Logonita Point and from the Rock Wall to the Zebra Room. Most anglers are using two to four colors of leadcore with a copper chicken wing-colored Needlefish, a red and gold Thomas Bouyant, Dick Nite spoons in the same colors, or a small Rapala. The shore action is very good at the dam and at the red house, but the whole north shore has been pretty productive. Rich and Matt Chavez, both Orange County, had limits of rainbows to two pounds trolling with guide Curt Dills. The warm days have also brought up a lot of bass, both smallmouths and largemouths. They have been best on on small plastics. The marinas and public boat launches are all open as of April 1, and the Jim Hall Memorial Trout Classic will be held May 17-18 (info by call- ing (909) 585-4007). For more fishing information: Big Bear Sporting Goods (909) 866-3222.

LYTLE CREEK: First DFW trout plants of the season last week in both the Middle and North Forks. Plants are slated again for next week.
HIGH DESERT LAKES
HESPERIA LAKE: Trout action has started to slow after the final plant of the season two weeks ago, but a few fish continue to be caught, including some trophy fish. Tops this past week was a nine-pounder landed by Shane Person, Apple Valley, while Luis Garcia, Victorville, had an eight-pounder. Catfish plants are now weekly and the bite is getting better each week. Top catfish reported was a six- pounder landed by Bill Sturgis, Devore, on the marshmal- low-meal worm combo. Carlos Fuentes, Ontario, landed a five-pound cat. Information: (800) 521-6332 or (760) 244- 5951.
JESS RANCH: The trout action has been fair to good with the best bite mid-morning until noon. The usual colors/fla-
vors (salmon peach, orange and garlic) of PowerBait, nightcrawlers, small jigs and lures all produced trout this week. A few bass are also being caught and some bluegill are starting to stir now. Catfish improving. Trout plants are each week. For more information call (760) 240-1107 or go

MOUNT BALDY TROUT POOLS: The heavily stocked pools are open every Saturday and Sunday. No fishing license is needed. Information: (909) 982-4246.
RIVERSIDE COUNTY
DIAMOND VALLEY: The bass bite has been very consis- tent for fish from two to five pounds. The best action has been in 15 to 30 feet of water on plastics, swim baits, and cranks. There are also still some fish up shallow, but the algae bloom seemed to move most fish out of the shal- lows. Stripers are just fair overall, but some nice fish are showing during boils on shad. Most of the stripers are run- ning four to six pounds. The final Mt. Lassen trout plant of the season went in last week. Overall, the rainbow action has been fair on floating baits, small trout plastics, and trout jigs. Kyle Warren, Murrieta, landed a six-pound trout fly-fishing with a white streamer from the bank. A few bluegill and redear are also starting to be caught with some to nearly two pounds reported. A few catfish also starting to show. Boats inspected and tagged “quagga free” at Diamond Valley will also be allowed on Perris and Silverwood. For general lake and launch information, call (800) 590-LAKE.
