Kettenburg & Classic Yacht Regatta sails into San Diego


Annual event takes place, June 27-29


SAN DIEGO – The 2014 annual Kettenburg and Classic Yacht Regatta, presented by the Ancient Mariners Sailing Society (AMSS) and hosted by San Diego Yacht Club, will hit the bay once again, June 27-29. “This year’s Kettenburg and Classic


Yacht Regatta continues as one of the West Coast’s premier events for classic sail and powerboats alike,” said John G. Driscoll, 2014 AMSS commodore. “Through the combined efforts of AMSS and San Diego YC, we plan to offer an amazing weekend of racing.” San Diego YC has hosted the regatta since 2011, when AMSS expanded the format of its long running race to include all makes of classic, full keel sails boats and power boats. The event features the inaugural


Kettenburg and Classic Yacht Regatta, which is sponsored by leading California tenant-only representation firm, Hughes Marino. The Sunday bay race results are separately scored to determine the Hughes Marino Kettenburg and Classic Yacht Regatta Charity Cup Race results. All proceeds of the cup will be donated by AMSS to Maritime Museum of San Diego Ronald McDonald Charities of San


Kettenburg makes and models built before 1985 and all other full keel sail- boats and powerboats of all wood hull construction built prior to 1985. The Kettenburg and Classic Yacht Regatta combines a classic boat showcase with two days of sail races and powerboat cruises. SAN DIEGO – Topsails, golly wobblers and flying jibs could be seen through- out San Diego Bay, March 29 during the 26th annual America’s Schooner Cup. With 15 to 18 knot winds and smooth seas, 13 schooners young and old gathered at the starting line. In the spirit of Corinthian sail- ing, Jerry Newton of Maid of Kent lent Gary Allen a fisher- man sail. Steve Denton and his crew of 13, aboard Amazing Grace, took first place in the B class followed by Scrimshaw, and Maid of Kent.

Gate Yacht Club with all proceeds going to the Navy/Marine Corps Relief Society.
