Bass, Panfish biting near Hemet’s Diamond Valley Marina

HEMET — On Sunday, Aug. 3, anglers near Diamond Valley Marina were catching bass between 2 and 10 pounds. Rob Phelps of Hemet reeled in a 9 pound 9 ounce bass using a shell cracker as bait. Anglers report seeing stripers but have had a hard time hooking them. It is recom-

mended to use cut bait and bluegill look- alike lures, as the stripers are prone to hunt small bluegills in the area. Panfish have also been abundant in

area waters. Fishermen have been catch- ing the panfish on night crawlers, mini jigs and mealworms. Hoyt Curtis of Sun City brought home a solid 2 pound 1 ounce redear on a night crawler. Anglers have also reported plentiful catfish biting. Area insiders suggest stink bait, cut bait and night crawlers are cur- rently working best.
