It’s worth the juggle

Kylie Huth

AS chief operating officer with Austrian manufacturing company, voestalpine VAE Railway Systems, Kylie Huth has already achieved great things since she commenced at the company as a financial clerk in 2000. And the decision to pursue an online MBA at Bond University was an easy one.

“I’d thought about doing an MBA for a long time. I believe you never stop learning and, having completed my undergraduate degree 20 years ago, I was keen to get back to formal study,” says Huth. The company financially supported Huth during her qualification, which she completed just a few weeks ago.

“They hold postgraduate qualifications in high regard and were very encouraging of me doing the eMBA. I’m sure I will be able to deliver many benefits back to the company as a result of my learning,” she says.

Huth says exposure to new ideas and honing her ability to see things from new perspectives have been major benefits of the eMBA experience.

“This is especially valuable for me as I work in a very male dominated industry.” She was attracted to Bond University because of the way its eMBA is structured.

“You have one intensive week on campus every six to eight weeks. Living in Mackay, I flew down to the Gold Coast for these intensives, then completed the rest of the coursework back home.”

As well as working full time, Huth and her husband have two teenage children. She says while completing the eMBA was “absolutely worthwhile” it was a juggle.

“Luckily I’m into time management because I needed to be very organised. I have an incredibly supportive husband who was there for me when I felt like it was all getting too much.” Huth hopes the qualification will open the door to future opportunities including non-executive board positions.
