Cerebral Cortex
The outer-most layer of the brain, also known as
“gray matter.” The cerebral cortex plays a role in
memory, attention, aware- ness, and consciousness.
Auditory Cortex
(Plural: Auditory Cortices): Specific areas of the cerebral cortex that are involved in
higher hearing functions. These cortices are located on the exterior of the brain, in the general area of the ears.
Thalmus
A brain structure that relays sensory (includ- ing auditory) signals to the cerebral cortex. The thalamus helps regulate consciousness and alert- ness to stimuli.
