water. On the go, tracking takes a priority over maneuverability; turning takes time and intention. The wide, flat hull and internal sponsons also make it super stable—it’s hard to edge aggres- sively, let alone flip.
Folbot’s foam seat and high seatback are simple but supportive. Ditto the slide-lock foot braces. The extra-long oval cockpit, however, is too large for secure knee/thigh bracing. An exposed cross frame in front of the seat also caught us in the legs—foam blocks are available from Folbot to improve posi- tive contact between lower body and boat. Extras with the optional expedi- tion package include a rudder kit, spray deck and repair kit.
The Cooper is an affordable folding kayak with great stability and volume for longer trips where gear hauling and straight tracking are a priority.

accepts a standard-sized spray deck, although there’s not much below the rim to brace knees and thighs. The Oru kayak is an elegant realiza- tion of childhood transformer fantasies. There’s enough space for carefully packed camping trips, but it’s best suit- ed to urban commutes and impromptu after work adventures.
