PORTABLES FOR ANYTIME ADVENTURES
Mid-week, after work, downtown. Not your typical time to squeeze in a mini paddling adventure. But then again, these aren’t your typical boats. Folding, inflatable and sectional kayaks comprise a growing niche of stash anywhere, go anytime boats that are perfect for opportunistic paddlers. Most of the kayaks on these pages can be carried in a large gym bag or backpack; all can fit in the back of a compact car. They’re easy to transport on airliners, bush planes, bicycle trailers, subways and buses, making them equally suited to world travelers and urban dwellers.
So which style should you choose? If it’s super-simple, lightning quick set-up you’re after, look to inflatable or sectional construction. If you’re planning longer trips in remote areas or open waters, a folding style is more suitable. In all cases, carrying capacity, performance, portability and price will depend on the individual boat designs and their intended use. Find the boat that’s right for you. Then just grab and go.
