Ball Review HAMMER:
Absolut Flip Hook 49 • Length 16 • Breakpoint Shape 15 //////////////////////////////////// //////////
Manufacturer’s Intent: Hammer used the same core as the previous Absolut balls (Curve, July 2013; Hook, November 2013), but with a pearl version of the H-200 coverstock in order to create the cleanest and most angular reaction in its mid-performance lineup. The Absolut Flip is intended for medium patterns that are broken down some in the fronts. Core: The Fatmax core provides the ball with an RG of 2.48 and a medium differential of .48. We saw more than 4 inches of flare with our layouts.
Coverstock: The Flip is wrapped by the blue, copper and silver H200 Pearl. This is the pearl version of the H200 solid used on the Absolut Hook. Out of the factory, the Flip comes to us sanded with 500, 500, 500 and 1000 Abralon, with Powerhouse factory finish polish. We measured an RA value of 1.41 with an effective surface grit of 5200. Overview: This entry in the Absolut line is a stronger version of the Absolut Hook, whose motion was smoother and lazier in comparison. The Absolut Flip gave us motion and angle similar to the Spike Pearl (June 2014), but it was a little smoother on the back with a couple more boards overall hook, according to our CATS data. This ball worked pretty well on all of our patterns. We were able to get lined up easily on the USBC team and doubles/singles patterns, as the Flip gives a predictable motion off the breakpoint with strong drive through the pins. On our house patterns, it made a strong move off the breakpoint with a lot of predictability and drive. It kept the pins low to increase the carry for all bowlers. On our lighter house pattern, the Flip got through the front part of the lane easily with a good move off the breakpoint and strong drive. This ball is a good choice for slower ball speed bowlers or those with a lot of revs to create more backend reaction.
