Be a Catalyst O

ur alumni are catalysts. You have read many of

their inspiring stories in recent issues of Eastern magazine. Te people you once shared a classroom with are now changing lives, altering world perceptions, and conquering industries with their knowledge, compassion, and determination.

From Gary Koppelman (BS73, MA79), an award- winning teacher who developed an environmental lab giving children a chance to be hands-on in the sciences, to Jeff Connelly (BA71), a retired oil and gas executive who recognized the challenges of non-traditional students by creating an endowed scholarship specifically benefiting commuting students, Eastern graduates have forged their own paths of success.

Each of you has your own story, but however unique your journey has been, there is still a common thread that binds you to your fellow graduates. It is the time you spent in Ypsilanti on the campus of our beloved, 165-year-old institution. Eastern Michigan University is embedded in the fiber of who we are. Tis is your University. Tis is Eastern. And today—I am calling you home.

Join fellow alumni in making a difference for EMU

When you think of the time you spent on campus, what comes to mind? Is it the relationship you built with your professors? Te networks you established through student organizations? Perhaps it is the scholarship you received that made the difference between having to get a second job and focusing on your studies. Te experiences you had as students are still here today and I am asking you to unite with your fellow alumni to help move our University forward.

I invite you to pay homage to your success and invest in the journey of current students by making

a giſt to any area of EMU that is most meaningful to you. When you make a giſt, it signals to those around us that our alumni are commited to our mission and that you stand behind the values of our institution.

Our alumni have proven their ability to make an impact locally, regionally and globally through their work and passion. Now I encourage you to unite to make a difference at EMU. Tis is our chance to show the impact our alumni can make at the University where each of their journeys began. Join me in bringing our successes home. Join me in being a catalyst.
