TRADE NEWS 39 Westjet meets local agents

FOUR top executives of Canadian carrier Westjet were in Belfast recently to meet representatives of the local Travel Trade and to acquaint them with the airline's new service to St John's Newfoundland from Dublin which starts in the middle of June. The new Westjet service launches on June 15 and runs daily until October 25. The airline also announced its intention to operate the service during the 2015 season, also until the end of October. The daily service leaves Dublin at 8.20 am and will operate non-stop flights to St John's and daily direct (same aircraft) flights onward to Toronto. Customs clearance will take place at St John's thus minimising delays for travellers in the entry procedure. Westjet, which was founded in 1996, operates a fleet of more than 100 aircraft, all of them under seven years old. Today the airline operates to more than 85 destinations in North America, Central

America, the Caribbean and Europe. The new Dublin service is the airline's first transatlantic route.

Westjet executives entertained local travel agents to dinner in Zen Restaurant in Belfast last night when they revealed that around 40 per cent of the airline's bookings comes through the Trade. Two lucky agents, Tracy Lowry of Travel Counsellors and Linda Millar of Bryan Somers Travel were the winners of trips to Canada using the new service.

The current one-way fare from Dublin to St John's starts from 199 Canadian Dollars, around £107 sterling.
