LINARIX draw wire systems hit the point

raw wire sensors based on magnetic rotary encoders are a reliable solution for monitoring linear motion over a range of up to 10 m. POSITAL’s LINARIX draw wire sensors are the ideal alternative to potentiometer-based “string pots” for a wide range of applications, including materials handling, construction machinery, and medical equipment. Unlike string pots, which depend on sliding contacts, LINARIX draw wire sensors are based on microprocessor-controlled magnetic rotation sensors that can be programmed. Users can set system parameters such as the desired measurement range. Convenient push buttons and LED indicators facilitate these operations. This feature can be used to ensure that the full scale of the output signal (voltage or current) match the limits of mechanical travel or to set the device to match the characteristics of the string pot that it is replacing, thereby minimizing the need to re-program the control system. The contact-free magnetic design of these draw wire systems means that they are very precise, durable, and robust.

program, adding a new, larger system
with a 60 mm rail diameter. Manufacturers from various industry sectors had requested such a solution for the transportation of heavy loads. RoundTrack®
60 carries up
to 15 tons per wheel. A trolley with four double-wheel sets can therefore move loads up to 120 tons. As with the existing RoundTrack®
25 and 40 sizes, the rails vanish almost completely in the shop floor
and can easily be crossed with small wheel pallet trucks. STROTHMANN does not only offer the system components but also plans and implements entire flow production lines on their basis. Featuring transport trolleys that can be pushed or driven with little energy and which simultaneously serve as mobile work stations, the RoundTrack®
system has many advantages over pallet trucks or overhead

Increased security, optimised configuration :firmware update 2.12 for INSYS icom routers and fault monitors

NSYS icom introduces the 2.12 firmware update for its fault monitors and routers which increases security and ease of use while closing the so-called “heartbleed” security gap with the 2.12.1 patch. One of the update’s major new functions is the option of complete device configuration via command line. This direct access considerably accelerates automated configuration processes: parameterising several devices at once is much faster and easier
using the command line interface (CLI) than via web configuration. In case of increased IT security requirements, CLI also enables automated periodic checks for any changes to the configuration or manipulations. Supporting the RADIUS authentication service, the de facto standard for central authentication and access rights management, the current firmware offers another security-related feature. For sending emails, it now provides an encrypted connection to the email provider (SSL/TLS authentication). Four days after it became known, INSYS had already fixed the “heartbleed” security risk in OpenSSL for its devices with the patch 2.12.1.

George Fischer takes channel fluid measurement to new level
iquid volumes and flow rates can be continuously monitored using sensitive yet rugged new sensors which have recently been added to the range of piping systems specialist, George Fischer. The new Type 2270 Ultrasonic Blind Sensor and

Type 2260 Ultrasonic Display Sensor have been designed to offer both ease of installation and use, as well as a long low maintenance life, and will find applications in the water, sewage treatment, chemical, manufacturing and (food?) processing industries. They are also suitable for measuring flows in culverts and spillways where flood monitoring is a priority. The sensors can be used in such roles as for calculating the dosage of chemicals required to control the pH value of a flow, for the accurate filling of storage tanks and in specialist treatments such as electro-plating. The various sizes and outputs of the 2270 and 2260 models operate on the ‘time of flight’ principle where a sound wave is transmitted from a point above the fluid surface and the time for the return signal to be received measured. This provides a reading of the level for the surface to an accuracy of +/- 0.2% of flow, with the sophistication of the technology enabling them to allow for wave height or the presence of dust and grease contamination. The sensors can further recognize and allow for ‘disturbing objects’ such as mixing paddles or ladders mounted on the side of tanks.
The sender unit emits a narrow beam of sound to offer very good echo densities – which can therefore cope with light foaming of the liquid - while the user can also pre-program in different tank or channel shapes to facilitate the calculation of volumes.
The construction of both units features the choice of
polypropylene and PVDF materials for the casings, giving good resistance to aggressive environments and ease of cleaning.
0 and 2260 are large and easy to read, while they use a 4-20 mA signal strength to communicate with central monitoring devices, HART modem or process control systems. The 2270 can offer operating ranges of four or six metres while the 2260 encompasses models able to work up to a distance of 15 metres. Both can be used in proximity of process temperatures between -30 and + 90 degrees centigrade, while all units carry ATEX, CE and RoHs accreditation. Overall the design of the new sensors from George Fischer can simplify the measurement of volumes and flow rates with a standard of accuracy and reliability which can offer the potential to improve quality or save on dosing chemicals. The new Type 2270 Ultrasonic Blind Sensor and 2260 Ultrasonic Display Sensor sit within George Fischer’s level measurement portfolio primarily as non-contact devices ideal for use in large tanks and with aggressive chemicals. The manufacturer provides a full technical advisory service to assist with specification and correct siting of the sensors, while a wide selection of ancillary components are available to ensure installation is completed quickly and successfully.
