NEWS The new “Aircraft Steam Generator System” makes it


possible to install steam showers in VIP customer aircraft. The compact system consists of a steam generator with steam outlet, a control panel, and a refill port for the vaporizer fluid. The self-contained unit does not have to be connected to the aircraft’s existing water system. The complete System measures just 343 x 363 x 439 mm and has an empty weight of 18 kilograms. Essential oils may also be added to aromatize the room where desired. The installation of a steam shower on board an aircraft


is, technically, particularly challenging. On the one hand, the system must be isolated in such a way that overheating inside the steam generator is impossible; on the other hand, the shower cabin must be so well sealed that no steam can escape and so that the steam can be completely extracted after use.


In the near future, Lufthansa Technik’s “On Board Oxygen Generation System” (OBOGS) will provide a continuous and completely unlimited supply of therapeutic oxygen via a mask on board a VIP aircraft. A maximum of two connections are possible for each unit. The complete unit weighs around 30 kilograms with dimensions similar to those of a desktop PC. Technik has succeeded in integrating an off-the-shelf device from the cooperation partner, Duerr Technik GmbH & Co. KG, in the complex technical environment of any VIP customer aircraft. The OBOG System can be installed as part of a retrofit update or enhancement. It does, however, require individual modifications on board, as an appropriate location has to be found for the equipment, cables have to be laid and control panels have to be installed. Thanks to their compact dimensions and low weight, both systems can be installed in any aircraft type during initial fitting or as a retrofit installation as part of modification work. Both systems are approved according to RTCA DO-160G and tested and authorized in accordance with EASA guidelines for aviation technology.


MINSHENG FINANCIAL LEASING CELEBRATES 60-AIRCRAFT ORDER WITH GULFSTREAM AT SIGNING CEREMONY


Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. held a signing ceremony on April 15 with Minsheng Financial Leasing Co. Ltd. at the Asian Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition. The ceremony recognized Minsheng’s order for 60 Gulfstream aircraft, which was signed in the fourth quarter of 2013. The 60-aircraft order, a combination of firm orders and options, is one of the largest in Gulfstream’s history. The sale spans the Gulfstream product line, including the super mid- size Gulfstream G280; the large-cabin, long-range G450; the large-cabin, ultra-long-range G550; and the ultra-large- cabin, ultra-long-range G650. “This agreement speaks to the industry-leading


performance, comfort, safety and reliability of Gulfstream aircraft,” says Larry Flynn, president, Gulfstream. “Thanks to the breadth of the Gulfstream aircraft family, we have the products that match the needs of Minsheng’s customers. Minsheng has quickly become the largest fleet owner in China and has been a leading visionary in the business aviation market. We are thrilled with Minsheng’s confidence in Gulfstream and look forward to working with the company throughout the delivery process and beyond.” Minsheng Financial Leasing was formed in April 2008 by China Minsheng Banking Corp. and Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone Investment. It was one of the first leasing companies to receive approval to operate from the China Banking Regulatory Commission. “Minsheng has enjoyed a long and successful relationship with Gulfstream,” says Johnny Lau, vice president, Aviation Leasing Division, Minsheng Financial Leasing. “The Gulfstream products combine reliability, performance, comfort and efficiency to provide a world-class flying experience for our customers.
