Where did you grow up? How did you first connect with the outdoors? I’m a city girl now, but I’m originally from the Pacific Northwest— Olympia, Washington. As a child I spent a lot of time playing outside, barefoot in the backyard or in cow fields or apple orchards. I had the luxury of growing up in places where I could just run out my door and go play.


What about now, living and working in Los Angeles? Here and in other big cities around the country, people don’t have that same access to nature. Some can get in their cars and drive to the mountains and go hiking. But if you don’t have a car, or you’re a kid
