news Molecor extends into SE Asia

Molecor, the Spanish manu- facturer of oriented PVC (PVC-O) pipe, has begun to make the product in Asia for the first time. Molecor (SEA) Sdn Bhd, which was launched at the recent Asia Water 2014 event, is a joint venture between Fitters Diversified Bhd (65%), Ricwil (Malaysia), which owns 25%, and Molecor Tecnologia with 10%. It will produce Molecor’s

Hypro brand of PVC-O pipe at a new manufacturing facility in Gebeng, Kuantan in Malaysia,

following an investment of around RM80 million ($25m). Manufacturing operations are planned to begin by the fourth quarter of 2014.

The plant will initially have

three production lines with a total installed capacity of up to 11,000 tonnes/year. A subse- quent expansion phase would double this. The group plans to expand its production capacity over the next three years, both locally as well as in Thailand and Indonesia. The business will largely supply governments and

township developers for both pipe-laying and pipe-replace- ment. Molecor says that its

molecular orientation technology gives PVC-O pipes great mechanical strength, and service life of up to 50 years.

ADS pipe certified in Florida

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) in the US has approved the use of high performance polypropyl- ene (PP) pipe from Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS). The pipe, in diameters of 12-60in (X-Ycm) diameters, is

approved for 100-year design service life applications in accordance with FDOT’s 2014 Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Section 948-7. According to FDOT, PP pipe has passed the needed testing

to be accepted for 100-year side drain, cross drain and storm sewer applications. Until project plans and specifications reflect this update, PP pipe may be selected by the contractor for any project where high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe is allowed.

“The pipe underwent a

stringent and formal testing programme required by FDOT, and met all criteria,” said Greg Bohn, director of national engineering at ADS. “Now FDOT contractors, and local agencies whose roadway construction regulations follow FDOT standards, may choose to use PP pipe for their storm drainage applications.” The pipe is made with impact modified copolymer PP resins, which gives increased pipe stiffness and durability, says ADS. ❙ www.ads-pipe.com

CPI wins contract from BP

Composite Pipes Industry (CPI), which makes glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) pipe, has won a $5 million contract to supply pipes and fittings to BP, according to a report in the Times of Oman.

The pipe will be used for

a 62 km-long pipeline at BP’s Khazaan field develop- ment in north-central Oman. The corrosion resistant

pipes are cost effective and do not require maintenance and repair, says the company. They can also handle high pressure for flow lines and sour applications. Said Al Maskery, general manager of CPI, said that the contract was awarded last September. ❙ www.cpioman.com
