EVERYTHING BOWLING, ALL THE TIME
ONE LANE, $55 MILLION
UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL CBS Sunday Morning crew visits Bowlers Journal //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
How does a national magazine that covers a niche like bowling survive for 100 years? That’s what award-winning television journalist Bill Geist and his “CBS Sunday Morning” crew wanted to find out. Geist spent three days in January scouring magazine and photo archives at Bowlers Journal’s Chicago headquarters, visiting local bowling cen- ters and trekking to Detroit for the Professional
Bowlers Association Tournament of Champions. From his interview with BJI President, Keith Hamil- ton, to his lesson in ball technology with BJI con- tributor Bill Spigner and lane-side chats at the TofC with longtime BJI writer Lyle Zikes, Geist captured the magazine’s rich history and the flavor of the sport in his five-minute segment, which aired na- tionally on Feb. 2. Want a single lane in your home? Not a problem. Want that lane in Beverly Hills? That will run approximately $55 mil- lion, thank you. A 25,000-square-foot Med- iterranean-style Beverly Hills mansion recently went on the market for $55 million. The price may seem a tad stout, but consider that the eight-bed- room house “comes with a sin- gle-lane bowling alley,” accord- ing to the listing. Touch a photo for a better view of the other “extras” that come with your alley…
