Ball Review STORM:

Zero Gravity Hook 58 • Length 14 • Breakpoint Shape 14

//////////////////////////////////// //////////

Intent: Gravity is back and stronger than before in the new Zero Gravity. It is supposed to be very user- and drill- er-friendly, and to be very forgiving to the bowler on the lanes. Core: The asymmetrical Shape Lock LD core has an RG of 2.55, with a .037 differential and a PSA of .010. We saw 5 inches of flare with our lay- out. Coverstock: The Zero Gravity is wrapped with the purple and red ERG solid reactive cover, and has a grape scent. Out of the box, it’s a 4000 grit Abralon, but is quite user-friendly and will adapt to altering the surface in order to change the breakpoint. Overview: The Zero Gravity worked well on Dead Man’s Curve and Stone Street by allowing us to play inside on both patterns. It was too much for the Viper and lighter house patterns. It is a little smoother than the original Virtual Gravity (November 2008), but was more forgiving to the pocket on the heavier oil. Shined up, the Zero Gravity gave more length on the lighter house pattern, but was still too strong for that pattern. It truly is a ball for heavy oil and longer patterns.

TIPS AND TRICKS TO MAKE YOU A BETTER BOWLER

TRACK:

LX 16 Hook 55 • Length 15 • Breakpoint Shape 14 //////////////////////////////////// //////////

Intent: The LX 16 is for bowlers with lower rev rates who need more help from the bowling ball. It was developed with Track’s latest and greatest core and coverstock. The LX 16 is in the first line of balls with Track’s new naming system, which indicates the kind of bowler for which the ball will work best — LX for low rev rate, MX for medium rev rate and HX for (you guessed it) high rev rate. Core: The I-Core is a multi-density asymmetrical core with an RG of 2.49, a differential of .053, and a PSA of .016. We saw 5 inches of flare with our layout.

Coverstock: The red/plum/smoke QR-8 Pearl cover is designed for a

quick response to give the bowler needing help a big move downlane. It is one of Track’s more aggressive covers, finished out of the box with 800/1000/2000/3000 Abralon. Overview: This ball helps you get to the pocket on heavier oil patterns. On Stone Street, I was able to get lined up to strike around 14 to 8 pretty easily. On Viper, the pearl cover allowed me to get deep and to the pocket pretty easily. On the heavier Dead Man’s Curve pattern, a little surface adjustment enabled the ball to read the midlane earlier. The LX 16 provides more forgiveness if you miss a bit, and still gives you that hard-hitting power at the pocket.
