We were sad to hear of the passing of the Albanian folklorist and folk singer Vaçe Zela on 6th February, aged 74; of Barely Works, Happy End and Kinetika Bloc musician Mat Fox on 7th February aged 57; of Slovenian singer/songwriter Tomaz Pengov, on 10th February aged 64; of Paul Colby, the manager


and later owner of Greenwich Village's Bitter End, on 13th February, aged 96; of Martin ‘Protag’ Neish of Blyth Power and other bands including Alternative TV, on 18th Feb aged 54; of British blues legend Duffy Power (born Ray Howard), on 19th Feb aged 72; and of flamenco guitarist Paco De Lucia on 26th Feb, aged 66.

No Strings In Africa, a project to get guitar strings out to musicians in Malawi, has been set up by Peter Arnold of Diss Music School. He has found a company, Eastern Produce, who are willing to ship the strings out to Malawi for free but is now looking for a reliable way of distributing the strings to the right people once in the country.
