Don’t miss important deadlines

February is a hugely busy month for everyone in the nursery industry, with Harrogate International Nursery Fair just around the corner and consequently several important BPA deadlines in tow.

Companies exhibiting at Harrogate are once again invited to gain important industry recognition for outstanding products by entering the BPA Baby and Nursery Trade Awards (BANTAs) which are sponsored by Nursery Today. With literally thousands of products on display at the show – established, tried and tested and others brand new to the market – the BANTAs provide exhibitors with the chance to stand out from the crowd and buyers a recommendation of what’s not-to-be-missed during their visit. This year there are nine categories to enter: Child Restraints; Wheeled Goods; Playtime; Sleep Accessories; Travel Accessories; In Home; Safety; Feeding, Cleaning & Changing; and Best New Product. Entry forms can be downloaded from the BPA website at www.thebpa.eu and the deadline to submit your entry is 28th February 2014. Companies with shortlisted products will be advised prior to Harrogate International Nursery Fair and will be requested to provide a sample of the shortlisted product for judges to view on the first day of the show. The winners will be announced at the hugely popular Party & Awards evening which takes place on Sunday 23rd March at the Majestic Hotel. This event is open to everyone attending Harrogate and is not only an evening of celebration for the BANTA winners, but a great opportunity to let your hair down and have some fun, with a delicious three course meal and live music. Tickets for this event are £48 (inclusive of VAT) and can be purchased from Adrian Sneyd of Harrogate International Nursery Fair (adrian@nurseryfair.com).

Last chance to join the BPA in China The deadline to join the BPA’s UK Pavilion at Children Baby Maternity Expo (CBME) in Shanghai this July is fast approaching and with limited space available, any company wishing to participate is advised to get in touch as soon as possible. Robert Anslow, managing director of the BPA, comments: “With £3000 of individual TAP grants available from the UKTi for almost every exhibitor within the UK Pavilion in Shanghai, it is hardly surprising that space has sold very quickly and we are looking forward having an impressive UK presence at the world’s largest nursery trade show for the very first time.

page 10 www.nursery-industry.co.uk “Following on from the success of the BPA’s UK Pavilions in both Cologne

and Las Vegas last year, China is an exciting step forward and this fast emerging market is eagerly awaiting an influx of European baby products and in particular those from the UK. There is huge support for companies wishing to expand into China, including help and advice from the China Britain Business Council – and of course participants in the UK Pavilion will be hand- held throughout their exhibiting journey, minimising any problems or language barriers that might arise.”

For more information about joining the BPA in Shanghai visit the BPA website at www.thebpa.eu where you can also download an information pack and funding application forms. Alternatively call Adrian Sneyd or Simon Anslow on 01902 880906 Booking deadline is FRIDAY 28 FEBRUARY 2014.

Concept & Innovation Awards Finalists announced After nail biting presentations to a panel of nursery industry ‘dragons’ in London last week, four Baby Products Association (BPA) Concept & Innovation Awards entrants have earned the well-deserved status as finalists. Two Concept entrants and two Innovation entrants will be bringing their new product ideas to present to the industry at Harrogate International Nursery Fair in March and the winners of each category will be announced at the show. In the Concept Award category, Tom and Tamar Clarke who both work in the airline industry and have two little girls of their own, were chosen as finalist for Bag Rider – an interesting idea combining a wheeled cabin bag and child seat. Also a finalist in this category is Catherine Curtis with a clever new twist on co-sleeping with her BabyHub Bedside Crib. In the Innovation Award category, Jonathan Feingold and Marc Kelly of CuddleCo Ltd were chosen as finalists for their new baby car seat concept Doona; whilst Connie McGarvey also reached the finals with his Waterless Bottle Warmer. Each of these products are almost ready to enter the market and visitors to Harrogate International Nursery Fair are guaranteed to be blown away by the revolutionary nature of both items. However, there are only two overall winners for 2014 and tension will once again be high at 11am on Monday 24th March when the winners will be announced on the Concept & Innovation stand in the Queen’s Pavilion. All products will be on display on this stand for the duration of Harrogate International Nursery Fair so be sure to take a look during your visit as some of these are set to be ‘must have’ baby products in the coming year.
