Including easy to read displays, simple set-up and 50ms loop update and sam- pling period time, Omron’s new E5DC DIN-rail mountable in-panel

controller

(right) is the newest member in the E5_C temperature controller range.

At only 22.5mm wide, the E5DC follows the same easy set-up structure as the other

models in the E5_C range, but allows the controller to be mounted inside the panel, thereby leaving space for other components. The large high contrast white LED display

featured by these controllers can be read from a distance at almost any angle, irre- spective of the ambient lighting conditions, maximising user convenience and virtually eliminating the risk of reading errors. Set-up is made easy by the incorpora- tion of an auto-tuning function, and easier still by Omron’s CX-Thermo support soft- ware, enabling faster parameter setting and straightforward device adjustment as well as greatly simplifying multiple device configuration and maintenance. Accurate and responsive control is

assured by the fast 50ms loop update and sampling period time of the new con- trollers and by the use of Omron’s 2-PID control algorithm. This patented algorithm

provides enhanced control stability, which guarantees consistent product quality. Also new from Omron is the D4SL-N safe- ty door switch (left) which allows mounting in areas where space is restricted, which is especially useful on small machine access points, and those constructed with a com- pact aluminium profile. Installation is aided through a flexible mounting system which allows the unit to mount from any direction, and with both axial and radial key holes the switch can be easily utilised for both sliding and lev- ered doors. A wide range of key actuators are available, providing flexible installa- tion. Articulated types are available to provide a solution for doors which suffer from misalignment. The D4SL-N also has the option of using a

micro-connector cable system that reduces installation time. With a key holding force of

A cost effective solution in tight spaces

Eaton has launched a new range of mini-rectangular photoelectric sensors that measure just 38mm by 13mm. The new E71 NanoView sensors require min- imum mounting space and offer machine and system builders a reliable sensing solution that is well suited for applications in the packaging, food and beverage, and materials handling sectors. The NanoView series offers a range of operating modes including polarised reflex sensor (2.5m), thru-beam sensor (1.5m to 6m), reflective sensor

Getting a grip on 3D imaging

Multipix Imaging has introduced the new Ensenso N10 stereo 3D camera with USB. The camera works according to a new proce- dure called ‘projected texture stereo vision’ and is fitted with two global shutter CMOS sensors and a pattern projector, which pro- jects a random dot pattern onto the object to be captured. The key advantage of the pattern is that it also works in multi-camera operation and is well suited for capturing unstructured surfaces. As the Ensenso N10 is factory calibrated, installation of the camera for 3D surface matching using the MVTec Halcon inter- face takes less than ten minutes out of the box. Using the free software interface supplied, you can also integrate the camera easily into your own application programs. When working with multiple cameras, the software package also

enables you to output a single 3D point cloud containing the data of all the cameras used. Using multiple cameras at the same time enables you to capture a scene synchronously from different sides, thus reducing shadowing effects and extending the field of view. The Ensenso N10 stereo 3D camera is designed for working distances of 280mm to 1,400mm and for variable fields of view. The camera can

capture both static and moving objects at up to 30 frames per second. Using the projected texture stereo vision procedure, the projector

projects a static, high contrast texture onto the scene and adds struc- tures that are not visible or are only faintly visible on the object. The Ensenso N10 captures nearly all surfaces within the field of vision and is highly resistant to external light influences. The aluminium housing measures a 150 x 45 x 45mm. The cam-

era also includes a lockable 3-pin M8 sensor/actuator connector with GPIOs for 12-24V hardware trigger input and output as well as a lock- able USB cable. The camera is suited to a range of applications and with a refresh rate of 30 frames per second, it can be used inline and is therefore ideal for use in 100% inspections. (350mm) and clear object detection. A key feature of the E71 NanoView miniature sensors is their ability to detect transparent objects made of plastic, glass or foils. They can also distinguish between bottles of different colours and thicknesses. An ABS plastic housing offering protection to IP66 standards also means they are suitable for harsh environments. In addition, a potentiometer on the device enables users to adjust sensitivity of the sensor to the spe- cific application requirements and a visible red LED beam simplifies the setting of the light barrier. The sensors also include two LEDs positioned at the top to ensure a clearly visible indication of the operating and output status. All models feature a light switch- ing and dark switching output and versions with a fixed focus beam and a 100mm focal length for the detection of small targets are available. All modules are designed for 10-30V DC and come with approvals for worldwide use. Eaton www.eaton.eu T: 0161 655 8900
