ENERGY – LIGHTING

TAKE YOUR WAREHOUSE LIGHTING TO THE NEXT LEVEL WITH LEDS

I

f you’re looking to increase lighting levels in narrow warehouse aisles, the Brighton S LED bay light from Earlsmann could be the ideal solution. In recent trials, the Brighton S units have been shown to create a much brighter environment while also reducing energy consumption by up to 75%. Earlsmann’s client, a leading plastic moulding manufacturer based in Doncaster, was looking to cut energy costs, reduce maintenance spend and boost its green credentials. Its existing 250W metal halide lighting was using around 300W per fitting, and was in use 24/7. The lighting was used to illuminate 2m-wide aisles, with shelving up to 10m. Warehouse aisle lighting is key to productivity, as good visibility helps to avoid mistakes when selecting items, reduces eye strain and supports a safer working environment.

Earlsmann undertook a trial to compare the traditional lighting directly against 120W Brighton S LED low bay units with 20 degree reflectors. This beam angle is perfectly suited to narrow aisles, directing light where it’s needed. In the trial, the Brighton produced

400 lux below the light, with the lighting installed at 10m – showing that only 60W was required to provide light levels that far exceeded the client’s minimum target of 150 lux. The Brighton S units also used 75% less energy than their metal halide equivalents. The composite photo shows a direct comparison of the lighting levels produced by traditional metal halide lighting (indistinct, low colour rendering) against the clearer, brighter levels offered by LED lighting. Earlsmann’s client was delighted with the results of the trial, with the Engineering Manager remarking that the lighting level was “a massive surprise – we didn’t expect it to be that bright!”. As a result of the trial, the company has selected Brighton S lighting with motion and light level sensors that will provide the required 150 lux level – at a much lower running cost than traditional lighting.

The Brighton S is fully dimmable and can be fitted with self-contained sensors that are adjustable from ground level. The ability to control the lights remotely and the longer lifespan of LED luminaires significantly reduces

ongoing maintenance costs. While the 20 degree beam angle is ideal for lighting narrow aisles, interchangeable 35 and 50 degree reflectors are also available – making the Brighton S a flexible option for accommodating any change of use in the building. Earlsmann manufactures every Brighton S LED bay light in the UK, providing a high-quality, reliable product underpinned by a full five-year, insurance underwritten, warranty. The company also provides a comprehensive range of lighting solutions to suit every interior and exterior application. NEW TELESCOPIC LIGHTING POLES SAVE OVER 90% MAINTENANCE COSTS

its new V-Spring 3 metre lighting poles. Designed primarily for walkway lighting in commercial and industrial settings, the V-Spring poles are telescopically adjustable between 1.5m and 3m, incorporating an internal vertical spring to assist in taking the load when the column is raised or lowered. The new V-Spring lighting pole has been designed to improve safety and reduce cost in maintaining lighting at height. With a single bolt fastening, a lighting maintenance worker can single- handedly lower the lighting pole for lamp changes or maintenance, and complete the job in less than half an hour at minimal cost. This saves the costly expense of hiring scaffolding, cherry pickers, scissor lifts, fall arrest systems, podium steps or tower scaffolds to achieve the same maintenance task from ground level as

ILS calculates that even allowing for the costs of the new V-Spring poles, immediate savings of over 50% can be realised and thereafter future maintenance costs can be cut by over 90%. V-Spring lighting poles are ideal for applications such as oil refineries, gas plants, power stations and rail trackside. Made to a high specification the

V-Spring lighting poles come in three different models: hot dipped galvanised, aluminium and stainless steel as well as an option of a weather protected coating for any environment. They are designed to withstand a wind rating of 320mph and can be mounted on any walkway, hand rail or wall. Supplied fully assembled and pre-wired to save time and money, the V-Spring light poles offer 360° rotation of light fittings, are fully weatherproof and maintenance free.
