delivered the stone from the hack, refusing to use the stick. Lately she threw lead rocks and then called the game. She was very smart about strategy and had much success. Last year in Mayfield’s Evergreen Mixed Bon- spiel her team made it to the finals of the “B” Event. She loved curling in the USWCA bonspiels, too – only missing one Senior Women’s National Bonspiel since its creation in 1984. She volunteered for many jobs in her club

and at the national level. Her enthusiasm for curling led to being the official greeter for all

he USWCA sadly announces the passing of one of its most dedi- cated volunteers. Louinia Mae Whittlesley, who at 89 was still an active curler and volunteer. Whittlesley died on Jan. 3, 2014, in

Mayfield bonspiels. Visitors to Mayfield will miss her familiar smiling face and warm welcome. She was awarded the Carlson Award for “doing the most to promote curling at the Mayfield Curling Club” in 2008. On the national level she was chairwoman for the Senior Women’s Bonspiel Pro- cedure Committee for several years and she loved attending the USWCA's national meetings. She served on many committees and her opinions were highly valued. She also served as a line judge in the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games. She was always up for a new adventure. Her other interests included playing bridge as a Life Master seven times

over, volunteering in several capacities at the Cleveland Museum of Art, spending 77 summers at her cottage on Higgins Lake in Michigan, and sup- porting her alma mater Smith College. Her greatest joy was her family and especially her great grandchildren. She shared their pictures with fellow curlers on the Tuesday Morning Ladies League just before she leſt for Chi- cago to spend Christmas with her family. Her joy in being with family and engaging in so many activities made Louinia Mae a role model for many of us. Her legacy lives on – Louinia Mae, we want to be just like you when we reach our 80s. n
