TRIBUTES GEORGE BLACK 1942 – 2013

we report the recent death of

 had recently been battling with cancer. A former engineer and keen side drummer, George retired

 Imperial Metal. Some six years ago he was fortunate to have

 after undergoing chemotherapy in Dundee. However, in April this year doctors diagnosed myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a form of cancer affecting the bone marrow, and George was informed that he had less than two years to survive.

George did not consider himself defeated and with this news and 

opportunity to make great efforts locally in raising awareness and support for the charity Marie Curie. George was well known within the local Dundee, Perth and Angus branch having been a drummer with various pipe bands in the area since an  at the age of 16, George won the Boys Brigade solo drumming championships and thereafter  Papermill Pipe Band where his father George Snr. was lead drummer.
