Only 1,612 take up Green Deal
The number of Green Deal packages has reached just 1,600, sparking fresh calls for a government rethink. Recent figures show that 1,612 households had Green Deal plans in progress at the end of December 2013 and only 626 were ‘live’, with all measures installed. In 2012, ministers had hinted that they wanted 10,000 Green Deal projects completed in the scheme’s first year. Although the number of
Green Deal assessments has continued to rise – increasing from 117,454 to 129,388 in December – the increase was 21% lower than in November. Paul King, chief executive of the UK Green Building Council, said the latest figures should come as a ‘wake-up call’ that the Green Deal is not delivering in its current form. He said the government must
be prepared to make its flagship policy more appealing through stronger incentives and more attractive finance options.
