Jet Engine Parts Inspection CAI System Patent-pending Smart Inspection Station (SiS) was developed to provide advanced CAI results on site at precision manu- facturers who prefer not to outsource dimensional inspections for production of jet engine parts either because lead times are tight and/or the manufacturers wish to protect proprietary information. High-accuracy 3D scanning and pro- prietary processes for advanced dimen- sional inspection, geometric analysis

and conformance reporting have been completely integrated and fully automated, then implemented into a cabinet that rolls onto the shop floor, plugs in to normal electrical power and produces CAI results, with a nontechnical operator, all in about 12 minutes.

End Mills

Corner radius, necked, necked radius, chipbreakers as well as CERAedge coating are now part of the 138 TuffCut X-AL series of end mills. Series 138 are well suited for aluminum and nonferrous milling and have been designed for high productivity. With CERAedge coating, the 138 Series can also be used in titanium-clad composite and high silicon aluminum materials. MA Ford

Automated Drilling System

Automated drilling system for a legacy military aircraft cargo floor application consists of a highly customized two-axis sys- tem that fits the contour of the part. Continuous scan- ning of existing pre-drilled components eliminated the costly redesign of these components by finding all

15,000 pilot holes without adding significant cycle time. It also provided significant man-hour savings compared with the current production process while maximizing safety for the operator. The system was the result of collaboration between PaR Systems and a major aerospace defense contractor. PaR Systems Ph: 800-464-1320 Web site: www.par.com

Advanced Cutting Tools New advanced cutting tools for machining precision aircraft parts from extremely tough materials include several new mill-

ing, turning and holemaking solutions developed for specific aerospace and defense manufacturing needs. New solutions include: the CS100 ceramic grade that allows for higher cut- ting speeds when rough machining nickel-based superalloys; double-sided high-feed wiper inserts with an M6 chipbreaker for roughing and semifinishing steel alloys; TH1000 and TH1500 grades that offer extreme wear resistance when turn- ing superalloys and hardened steels; Turbo helical cutters for aggressive metal removal in shouldering operations; Jetstream Tooling Duo technology that uses two highly precise coolant jets to cool the rake and clearance faces of the cutting tool in turning operations; and Feedmax PCD drills that bring flex- ibility and performance to composite machining. Aircraft Painting Man Lift

Three-axis man lift system enhances work safety and ergonomics while increasing productiv- ity. Designed to carry multiple people, the

aluminum platform design incorporates a tip-down front rail that allows workers, while attached to a safety harness, to access irregularly shaped products for inspection, sanding,
