sake of mission dollars in the future.” Another young adult, Sarah Delap, said serving on the
committee is her way of giving back to the church: “I’m excited about the things the ELCA is doing. … [It has been] such a huge part of my life through youth groups, campus ministry and then being part of YAGM (Young Adults in Global Mission). “Both locally and globally our church is making a dif-
ference in people’s lives. T is campaign will give us even more opportunities to live out our calling as Christians and to love others. What better way to do that than through the church?” Bob and Becky Shaw, ELCA members from Des
Moines, Iowa, said they are “bound and determined to see the campaign succeed.” Its international leadership components “are close to my heart,” Becky said. “T is is an opportunity to bring hope to millions of
people through our combined churchwide eff orts,” Bob said. “T at’s reason enough for everyone to be involved.” In the months since the Churchwide Assembly acted,
more than $10 million has been raised in cash, commit- ments and planned giſt s. “It is only through all of us coming together … that we
will be successful,” Christina Jackson-Skelton, executive director for Mission Advancement, told churchwide staff at the launch. “We need you. Because the work we do together as the ELCA is too important to let it dwindle away through annual budget reductions [due to declining mission support sent from congregation to synods]. “T is campaign sup-
ports mission and min- istry beyond ourselves, investing in this church and extending our mis- sion reach.”
