Big fun in a small town
Whoever says there’s nothing to do in a small town has never passed through Hampton County, S.C.
Whether you’re into sports, outdoor adventure, a good game of golf, or simply some arts and crafts time, there’s something for everyone in our fair county. And county voters recently approved a penny sales tax referendum to build a new multi-sport recreation com- plex in the Hampton-Var- nville area, while funding improvements to existing rec facilities in other parts of the county. That’s good news for families and sports fans!
Here is just a snapshot of the recreational opportunities awaiting hometown folks and visitors alike: •
Play nine holes – or opt for the full 18 - at beauti- ful Penny Branch golf course. And don’t forget to try their infamous “Island Hole” which is almost completely sur- rounded by water! Contact 803-625-0222. •

Drop in at the Hampton County Recreation De- partment and enjoy a host of recreational to-dos such as dance classes, senior events, gymnastics, martial arts, basketball, scrapbooking, shag classes, and cake decorat- ing, and more! Contact 803-943-2857. •
Capture wildlife at its wildest at Webb Wildlife Center/Hamilton Ridge and Palachucola Wildlife Manage- ment Areas outside of Garnett. Contact 625-3569. • Take the whole family along and enjoy fishing, boating, hiking, picnicking, bird watching, or just playing games in the great outdoors at one of our many blackwater rivers or at lovely Lake Warren State Park. This 440-acre retreat includes 200-acre Lake George Warren, a pier and boat dock, a two-acre pond, two nature trails, a children’s playground, and community buildings available for rent.
