MOVERS AND SHAKERS BOSSA HIRES BLACKLIST DEV


BOSSA STUDIOS Independent developer Bossa has hired ROB MACKENZIE as a senior game designer. He will be working on multiple projects across the studio. Mackenzie returns to the UK after leading game design on Splinter Cell: Blacklist at Ubisoft Toronto. “Moving to Bossa was a rare case of an off er I couldn’t refuse: an opportunity to work on smaller, more focused and personal games at one of the most forward-thinking studios in the UK right now,” he told Develop.


MARMALADE KARLA SUTHERLAND has joined the expanding team at Marmalade as a producer and will manage the external


development of several major titles for the games making arm of the SDK technology company.


“Marmalade has got a really exciting portfolio of products lined up this year. I am really stoked to be involved at such an exciting time for the company,” she said.


Sutherland has been in the games industry for over 13 years, having worked with Sony and Disney. Her credits include work on Burnout Revenge, and Heavenly Sword.


He has spent time at Codemasters, Climax, Lionhead Studios and Kuju. Recent hires by the London studio also include OLIVER HINDLE as digital marketing assistant and HERB LIU as an associate producer. Hindle, 24, caught the attention of the studio after submitting a YouTube application video, which has had thousands of views.

Entertainment, has hired former Criterion chief technology offi cer PAUL ROSS. Ross has been appointed CTO and a director of the studio, which opened its doors earlier this year. Ross wants Three Fields to be “a space where the world’s top talent can develop game-changing experiences”. A long-time Criterion developer, Ross’ credits include many titles in the Burnout and Need for Speed series. The company is now comprised wholly of ten ex-Criterion staff , and is aiming to expand further this year.

A Stanford graduate in Economics, Liu will use his management skills to lead new projects at Bossa. “Coming from a background in tech and education, and as a lifelong gamer, I felt it was a no-brainer when the opportunity to work at Bossa came up. It’s been a total blast working with so many talented people,” said Liu.


KEYWORDS DAVE LAWSON has joined Keywords Studios as commercial manager, following the QA fi rm’s acquisition of Babel earlier this year.


He will be responsible for all back-end sales activity and marketing for all of Keywords’ studios globally. “I am very excited to have joined Keywords at a point where the company is rapidly expanding, and I look forward to contributing to such a successful team,” Lawson told Develop. “With the latest acquisition of Binari Sonori, this puts us in a position to be the biggest and strongest provider of QA and localisation in the world.”

SQUARE ENIX The European arm of Square Enix has appointed PHIL ELLIOT as project leader for its new development initiative, Collective.


Elliot is overseeing strategy and development, communications, outreach and developer relations. “Collective’s a project I pitched internally about a year ago, and I’m really proud to be leading it,” he told Develop. “It’s been a great start to the year so far, a lot of people are being very kind in what they’re saying. “And with crowdfunding campaigns starting very soon, I’m excited to see how far we can help teams fi nd the funding they need.”
