Bmic pinpoints leaks hands-free
HWM has launched the Bmic hands-free leak monitoring device. With a belt-mounted control unit for hands-free operation, the lightweight Bmic is
comfortable, easy to use
and provides high quality sound reproduction.
To avoid unnecessary excavation and ‘dry holes’ that do not expose the leak on an underground
pipe, the Bmic
The Bmic hands-free leak monitor
helps leak technicians precisely pinpoint the leak location from the surface. Available as standard with the proven “elephant’s foot” windproof microphone or in the Bmic Lite package with a lightweight hand probe and “tripod foot”, it offers an economical way to improve the leak pinpointing and repair process for all levels of requirement. A simple push of the button on the belt-mounted control unit activates broadband amplification technology to make the sound clearer and pinpointing even easier, and the windproof housing on the microphone coupled with the included studio quality headphones ensures the best possible audio quality.

Transducer withstands up to 85°C
Measurement Specialties has improved the operating temperature range for the KPSI Model 342 submersible level transducer. The 342 transducer can now withstand temperatures up to 85°C for use in hostile fluids providing a 4-20mA analog output with digital transducer performance.
The Model 342 is a small bore (3/4” body diameter) submersible hydrostatic level transducer that combines Measurement Specialties’ well known sensor competencies with the latest in Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) technology. The addition of the ASIC has given the Model 342 digital performance in an analog product over the entire operating range. The Total Error Band specification (±0.25% FS) over the compensated temperature range (-20 to 85ºC) eliminates the user having to combine multiple performance specifications to realise the total accuracy of the transducer. While numerically larger, it is a more accurate specification because it defines linearity of the sensors’ performance as a total rather than using the traditional definition, which takes the difference between the largest positive and negative linearity values.
www.meas-spec.com Flexible saddle for pipes
Never one to rest on its laurels, Flexseal - a market leader in lateral pipe connections - has upgraded its best-selling WRc Approved FA150B Flexible Saddle connection with the introduction of a vivid yellow colour to all plastic parts of the main body in a bid to ease installation. Originally pure black, the saddle now provides increased visibility for contractors, helping distinguish between the plastic sections and the EPDM rubber. The FA150B serves to provide a secure connection for a DN150 lateral pipe from a surface drain into a large diameter main underground pipe. Renowned for
The Flexible Saddle connection
its outstanding
performance, the saddle can withstand a vertical load of two tonnes and when installed correctly, will withstand 1 bar internal pressure and accept a deflection on the lateral of 15 degrees. The connection also avoids the need for excavating around the pipe and disturbing the pipe bedding. The FA150B can be used to connect to a DN150 or DN200mm lateral pipe into a large diameter thick walled sewer or surface water pipe, including concrete, vitrified clay, asbestos cement or fibre cement.

Padlocks get standard approval
Henry Squire & Sons is one of the first manufacturers to be accredited to a new quality standard
set
by LPCB (Loss Protection Certification Board) for its high security Stronghold padlocks.
Photometer offers accurate testing
The new, upgraded Photometer 8000 Field Kit from Palintest has now been launched for use in the drinking water, wastewa- ter, surface water and process water markets.
Henry Squire Stronghold padlocks
A host of Squire’s Stronghold SS50 and SS65 padlocks, which are ideally suited for utilities companies, have been approved under LPCB’s new standard LPS 1654: Issue 1.0 which applies exclusively to the testing, assessment, certification and approval of padlocks.
Security products approved by LPCB have been rigorously tested by experts in programmes designed to evaluate resistance to deliberate attack.
Made from solid steel for maximum strength and durability, Squire’s CEN grade Stronghold padlocks benefit from state-of-the-art manufacturing and production technology.

OMOBILE gives temporary solution
Ondeo Industrial Solutions (Ondeo IS) is providing customers with an efficient means of maintaining vital water treatment during planned plant shutdowns. The OMOBILE fleet of mobile water treatment units guarantees water quantity, and quality, for industrial plants, which require a temporary water treatment solution. A key benefit is that OMOBILE can be hired on a long-term basis as the main water treatment unit for each site. This enables businesses to produce high quality water quickly without high capital investment, and without the complications and delays involved in building their own permanent water treatment plant. They have flow rates ranging from a few m3/hr to several hundred m3/hr and can treat water to a quality better than 0.1µS/cm. In addition to their value as a temporary solution during planned maintenance shutdown periods, OMOBILE units are an efficient and cost-effective option for sites that experience variation in process water requirements throughout the year, in terms of quality and quantity. .

Castell launches the KSP lock
Industrial safety specialist Castell has launched a new spring- loaded lock, the KSP, to increase efficiency in traditional bolt interlock applications. The KSP is a spring- loaded version of the Castell K lock, and
The kit brings together a porta- ble multiparameter photometer and all required accessories to conveniently and accurately test in almost any application envi- ronment.
The Photometer 8000 Field Kit
Equally suitable for use in the lab or in the field, it suc- cessfully and economically answers the call for a single water technician’s kit that is suitable for virtually any situ- ation and set of test parameter.
Included within the kit’s sturdy IP67 case are cuvettes, sample preparation apparatus and interface cables to allow USB or RS232 connection of the Photometer 8000. Trans- port containers within the case allow users to carry any of the range of tablet or liquid reagents used for determina- tion of species such as ammonia, nitrate, heavy metals and chlorine.

Litre Meter flowmeters ‘ideal’ for desalination use
UK flowmeter specialist Litre Meter has identified a number of its flowmeter products as suitable for use in the growing desalination plant market.
Litre Meter flowmeters are useful in two areas of the desalination process − to monitor the use of chemicals to control costs and to monitor and control the environmental impact of desalination. Chemical pre-treatment and cleaning are a necessity in most desalination plants. This typically includes treatment against bio fouling, scaling, foaming and corrosion in thermal plants and against bio fouling, suspended solids and scale deposits in membrane plants.
VFF meters already used to great effect in chemical injection in the oil and gas industry are suitable for measuring the flow of chemical pre-treatment in the desalination process.
For example, VFF positive displacement flowmeters are used on a potable water chlorine dosing skid for a North Sea gas platform.

FAITH PST system certified
The KSP spring-loaded lock
uses an internal spring to automatically extend the lock’s bolt to its fullest extent when circumstances permit. The key-operated mechanical interlock is suitable for the safe locking of simple actuating mechanisms. The lock is generally used at the start of a process and traps a key while equipment is running.
When the equipment is switched to a safe state and
the aperture in the actuating mechanism is aligned, the spring-loaded bolt automatically extends and is locked in position.
This represents an advantage over existing bolt locks as the operation happens immediately and without the need for human intervention.

Netherlocks has received new EX certification for the Netherlocks FAITH Partial Stroke Testing (PST) system, recognising the addition of a dedicated grounding means for the device.
The FAITH PST
device uses mechanical pins to limit the degree of valve closure, allowing for easy, safe testing of system-critical components such as ESD (Emergency Shut Down) and HIPPS (High Integrity Pressure Protection System) valves without affecting normal online process or operation. There is no risk of test angle overshoot or process interruption, the test can be performed at ‘real’ speed and will always return results.
The new ATEX certification of the Netherlocks explosion-
proof FAITH system is a good step forward in raising the level of applicability of mechanical PST in various process industries, bringing the highest levels of safety to as many environments as possible.
