COSTA RICA

ong known for rustic eco lodges

The Central American country is back in the spotlight in 2014 as a new design focused

northern Pacific coast

boutique hotel – the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo – opens on the spectacular

in the rainforest, escorted jungle tours and some of the larger mid-market chain hotels, Costa Rica’s hotel scene has for a long time not kept up with the demand and expectations of the modern luxury traveller. Things are changing however with the debut of one of Latin America’s most exciting new hotel openings in December 2013 - the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo. The hotel - the first of the Andaz brand in the region - will blend organic, modern indigenous design with the country’s cultural and natural richness, tapping into Mother Nature for its inspiration. Located overlooking the Bay of Culebra on the dramatic ‘hand shaped’ Papagayo Peninsula, it is easily accessible from Liberia International Airport which is just a 20 minute transfer away.

A truly original and inventive resort designed by Costa Rican architect Ronald Zurcher, it is built on a 28 acre parcel of ‘tropical dry forest’ that plunges into the Pacific Ocean – an area that is a haven for marine life including whales and large pelagic fish. The resort comprises 153 guestrooms including 21 luxury suites, four of which have plunge pools and a vast presidential suite with private full size pool. All rooms and suites have dramatic views of the ocean. There are also three restaurants, a Marina Bar and a 11,000 square foot spa built into the jungle with nine treatment rooms. The peninsula itself has 18 beautiful beaches, many only accessible by boat, a Beach Club, Marina and an Arnold Palmer championship golf course.
