GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT Grant to help enhance public awareness of sport By Terry L. Kolesar, Editor, terry.kolesar@usacurl.org U

SA Curling has been awarded a grant from Te Chicago Com- munity Trust in support of the growth of the sport in the Unit- ed States.

Trough use of these funds, the organization plans to enhance public

awareness of the sport through various outreach efforts that build upon the momentum of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. USA Curling will also continue to focus on growth efforts at the club level including improving training programs and creating resources for emerging clubs. Funds awarded by Te Chicago Community Trust also make the Darwin

Curtis Fund Grant Program possible. Te program, which is administrated by USA Curling on behalf of Te Chicago Community Trust, awarded a to- tal of $20,000 in matching funds through a competitive application process to organizations actively working to increase participation in the sport of curling. “We are extremely excited about the programs the Darwin Curtis funds

will help sponsor this year,” said Kim Nawyn, USA Curling’s Director of Growth and Development. “Each of the grant awards will contribute to the growth of the sport in curling clubs around the country.” Nine organizations were awarded funds through the competitive ap-

plication process. Successful applicants include: Centerville Curling Club (dehumidification system); Denver Curling Club (recruitment initiatives for new dedicated curling facility); Kalamazoo Curling Club (youth curling outreach program); Lansing Curling Club (recruitment events for emerging arena club); Madison Curling Club (automatic door openers to enhance ac- cessibility for wheelchair curlers); Midland Curling Club (league for special needs curlers); Orange County Curling Club (freezer for cooling stones); Pittsburgh Curling Club (detailed engineering drawing for new curling fa- cility); and the Schenectady Curling Club (recruitment efforts focused on women and children).
