Miniature SIP AC-DC power supplies look to maximise board space

CUI Inc have launched their smallest ac-dc power supplies yet with the release of the PBK ultra- compact SIP series. Available in 1 W, 3 W, and 5 W families, the modules measure as small as 1.38 x 0.43 x 0.94 in. (35 x 11 x 24 mm), so occupying less PCB real-estate than is the case with other conventional ac-dc power supplies, allowing designers to fully maximise space where on-board ac-dc power conversion is required.

The high density PBK series is offered in single output voltages of 3.3, 5, 9, 12, 15, and 24 Vdc and can operate at ac input voltages between 85~264 Vac. For high voltage dc-dc applications, the modules also provide a dc input range spanning 100~400 Vdc. All models are designed for 3,000 Vac/1 Min input to output isolation, have over current and continuous short circuit protection, and can function at a wide operating range from -40 to +85°C (1W and 3W) and -25 to +85°C (5W) for use in challenging environments.

The SIP packaged PBK series meets

internationally recognised UL 60950-1/EN 60950-1 standards and complies with EN55022 Class B limits for conducted and radiated EMC with few additional external components. They are suited for a range of applications including automation systems, industrial systems, and telecommunication equipment.

Emerson Network Power offers competitive 300 Watt AC-DC power supply

Emerson Network Power has released a new 300 Watt ac-dc power supply that will provide industrial and medical equipment manufacturers with a highly reliable single output power solution at, what the company claims, is a competitive cost. The LCM300Q-T-4 features digital control, enabling Emerson to use simple firmware updates to modify parameters such as peak load handling, special voltage control, and to create unique fan speed profiles. Evaluation samples and production units are now available. The device is the latest in the company’s LCM300 series, and this new model offers a 24 V output, which can be trimmed to ±20 percent, with 5 V standby. It does not require derating at low line and provides the full power across the input range 90 to 264 Vac. The compact 1U X 4 X 7 inch enclosed form factor includes a smart fan for self-contained cooling. The new model features efficiency greater than 91 percent at full load, a typical power factor of 0.98, and a power density of 7.1 W/in3. Backed by a comprehensive set of industrial and medical safety approvals, the LCM3000Q-T-4

is suitable for light industrial applications and factory automation, including battery charging; non-patient contact and non-patient critical medical, dental and laboratory applications; as well as for telecom and datacom equipment. The MTBF of the LCM300 is greater than 500,000 hours, and all models in the series carry a manufacturer’s warranty of three years.

Multi format 180 Watt 93% efficient power supply from XP Power

XP Power has extemded its GCS series of single output high efficiency “green” AC-DC power supplies with both ITE and Medical safety approvals. Complementing the GCS150 150 Watt models, the GCS180 range extends the power output capability up to 180 Watts. All models in the range have a no load input power of less than 0.5W and a typical efficiency of 93%.

The GCS180 series is available in multiple mechanical formats. Convection cooled formats, providing up to 150 Watt output, are in an industry standard 3 x 5 inch (127 x 76.2 mm) open frame package, an optional enclosed cover option is also available. The full 180 W output is available when a forced air flow of only 7 CFM is provided by the user or by using the optional top or end mounted fan formats. Across the range, 5 single output models are available covering the popular nominal outputs of +12, +15, +24, +28 or +48 VDC. An additional 12 V / 0.6 A fan output is standard. Designers also have the choice of using an input earth connection or not due to the Class I and Class II input construction used. A remote on/off feature is available across the range by specifying the –R option.

The GCS180 series meets the Class B limits of EN55011 and EN55022 for conducted emissions and Class A limits for radiated emissions with no additional filtering components required. The GCS180 series is suitable for a wide range of medical, industrial and communication applications. With a wide range of operating temperature, the units can be used in most environments. There is no derating until above + 50 degrees C.
