Wider temperature range version of the LT1965 now available
Linear Technology has launched a new H grade, wider temperature range version of the LT1965, a 1A LDO with high power density. The IC features a low dropout voltage of only 300mV at full load, wide VIN capability of 1.8V to 20V and an adjustable output from 1.2V to 19.5V. Low output noise of only 40µVRMS reduces noise in instrumentation, RF, DSP and logic supply systems and is beneficial for post- regulating switching power supplies. Output tolerance is tightly regulated to within ±3% over line, load and temperature. The device’s low quiescent current of 500µA (operating) and less than 1µA (shutdown) make it an excellent choice for applications requiring high output drive capability with low current consumption. The LT1965 regulator has been designed to optimise both stability and transient response with low ESR, ceramic output capacitors as small as 10µF. These tiny external capacitors can be
used without any necessary series resistance as is common with many other regulators. Internal protection circuitry includes reverse-battery protection, no reverse current, current limiting with foldback, and thermal limiting. For applications requiring large input-to-output differentials, the LT1965 offers a very compact and thermally effective solution. The LT1965 H grade is rated from -40°C to +150°C operating junction temperature and is offered in the low profile (0.75mm) 8-lead DFN (3mm x 3mm) package, the surface-mount DD- Pak power package, and the TO-220 power package.

MC1U high power AC-DC PSUs designed for challenging environments
Powerstax, a specialist provider of highly optimised power sources, has released the MC1U series. Offered in 400W (MC1U-6A), 700W (MC1U-6B) and 1000W (MC1U-6C) versions, supporting a 47Hz to 440Hz input frequency range, these power supply units (PSUs) are intended to provide design engineers with a plug and play solution that can easily be adapted to meet their exact functional specifications - with the output voltage adjusted as required using an integrated multi-turn potentiometer. Measuring 26.0cm x 12.7cm x 4.0cm, these user-configured PSUs exhibit power conversion
efficiencies of up to 91%. The available input voltage range is 85VAC to 264VAC at 47Hz to 63Hz and 90VAC to 120VAC at 390Hz to 440Hz. These units can be combined with the company’s popular A3600 chassis in order to form 19” rack mount solutions.
UL60950, CSA22.2 No.950 and EN60950
approved, as well as fully conforming to both MIL-STD-461F (for electromagnetic interference) and MIL-STD-810G (for shock and vibration) standards, the products in the MC1U series are targeted at implementation into military commercial-off-the-shelf (MIL-COTS) and other
“Book” style solar power bank from Powersolve
Powersolve has further expanded its power bank and USB charger portfolio with the launch of a new solar charger and power bank that will charge mobile phones, MP3 players, digital cameras and any device that can be charged using a standard 5V 1A USB charger. Designed using monocrystalline 3.2W solar panels and an integral 5000mAh Lithium Polymer battery, the SOL3W solar charger can be charged by sunlight (7-10 hours) or USB charger (5 – 6 hours). “There is a growing demand for power
sources that not only extend the talk time of the average smart phone, but also provide a charging capability when away from a mains supply,” explained Peter Clark, Managing Director at Powersolve. “There are many solar chargers available that are simply not capable of providing enough power to charge a smart phone. In fact many do not even meet the maker’s claimed specification. Ours can more than treble the talk time”.
high reliability (high-rel) systems, such as marine/military communication, satellite guidance, avionics and radar. Over-current, over- voltage and inrush current protection mechanisms are incorporated into these units, as well as thermal shutdown. They also have a 3000VAC voltage isolation and an operational temperature range spanning from -55ºC to 70ºC. A conformal coating on their exterior offers added protection against dust and liquid ingress.
“The power system designs in military,
aerospace, and increasingly the industrial sphere too, put a great deal of pressure onto engineering teams, with exacting demands needing to be met.” Stated Rob Hill, Director of Sales & Marketing at Powerstax, “The MC1U MIL-COTS PSU series has the performance
characteristics and an array of protection features necessary for dealing with the most difficult of operational settings.”

The SOL3W is a “book” style charger which, when closed, measures just 6 x 4in. Powersolve’s design provides intelligent protection circuitry for the battery while LED indicators show when the charger is in use, charging or fully charged. It comes complete with charging cable and eight connectors for the most popular smart phones and mobile devices.
