Morey's hosts IAAPA board meeting

These days the International Association of Amusements Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) represents a varied range of facilities around the globe, but it hasn't forgotten its roots. Following an invitation from current IAAPA chairman Will Morey, 28 industry leaders from 13 countries, together their spouses and IAAPA staff, attended a board of directors meeting and summit at Morey’s Piers in Wildwood from 24 to 27 June. Once known as NAAP, the US National Association of Amusement Parks, this was the first time in IAAPA's 96-year history that a board meeting has been held in New Jersey. The key topics of conversation during the four-day get-together included strategic initiatives regarding the association's growing global operations, locations for future trade shows and a new facility excellence

programme. The board also completed the important task of agreeing on a new global governance structure to be initiated in 2014. Whilst in Wildwood, they rode an iconic tram car (as pictured) each morning from their hotel to the daily meetings at the Wildwood Convention Center. The trams are classed as Wildwood's oldest ride, operating continuously on the boardwalk for 62 years. Other activities enjoyed by the IAAPA representatives included a boardwalk bike ride, Cape May sea tour, breakfast on Morey's Ferris Wheel and a behind the scenes tour of the piers.

On the final day of the summit, the IAAPA executive committee and several board members made visits to additional New Jersey members in Keansburg, Point Pleasant and Seaside Heights as part of the association’s ongoing support of the shore’s rebuilding efforts. “In New Jersey, the amusement park and attraction industry supports close to 41,000 jobs and has an estimated $3.4 billion economic impact on the state’s economy,” notes Morey. “We are proud to welcome IAAPA to the boardwalks of Wildwood. And what better timing to bring this group of international industry influencers to the re-emerging Jersey Shore to experience all it has to offer.”
