GAMESCOM GUIDE In association with

Gamescom Survival Guide

The world’s biggest games show is also one of the busiest you will ever attend. So MCV has called on Gamescom veterans to share their tips on getting the most out of the show – and finding that well-earned post-show pint

DOS AND DON’TS

Daniel Kilby, Project Manager, IGN UK

DO: Try and see as much as you can on the trade day (Wednesday) – the public days become far too busy to see anything.

DO: Eat a big breakfast ahead of each day. You’ll need the energy.

DON’T: Underestimate how long it takes to get from hall to hall.

DON’T: Be afraid to eat at the canteen inside the Koelnmesse – it’s actually surprisingly nice.

Marilena Papacosta, PR & Marketing Manager,

Tecmo Koei Europe

DO: Go to the Irish bar. It’s the best place to meet people from the industry.

DON’T: Go to the Irish bar. It’s Germany! There’s beer everywhere.

DON’T: Stay in at night. It might be a long three days but most of the interesting stuff goes on in the evenings.

DO: Take the tram to Koelnmesse. It avoids the traffic and delivers you to the door for a few euros.

DO: Pick up lunch early or late to avoid the huge queues at the catering during peak times.

DON’T: Even think about visiting the public hall on the weekend.

DON’T: Overbook your schedule on the Wednesday and see if you can catch up with people arriving early on Tuesday.

DO: Try and visit the Dom while you’re there. It’s an architectural masterpiece.

DO: Take some time to check out the showfloor and play some games. In what other job would that still count as work?

DON’T: Underestimate the number of fans that come to the show from Thursday. It will take twice as long to get anywhere or see anything.
