ScotRail begins free Wi-Fi rollout S


cottish train operating company ScotRail is equipping its new Class 380 fl eet with wireless connectivity installed

claims that the ScotRail Class 380 Wi-Fi rollout is starting at an ideal time for its passengers: “We’re delighted to help connect yet another UK transport company with on- board Wi-Fi connectivity – especially ahead of such an exciting year when the eyes of the world will be on Scotland.” T e rollout across the 38-strong fl eet is scheduled for completion by March 2014,


ahead of major sporting events including the Commonwealth Games and Ryder Cup and has been funded with assistance from the Scottish Government as part of its long-term ambition for the provision of Wi-Fi across Scotland’s entire rail network. Steve Montgomery, ScotRail managing


director, said: “It is exciting that people will be able to enjoy free Wi-Fi on board our larg- est fl eet of electric trains. We are confi dent that the expansion of Wi-Fi will be warmly welcomed by our customers, who increasingly want to stay connected during their journeys, whether for business or to chat with friends.”

RAC Advance, a new product for motorists that incorporates advanced crash detection technology, fuel saving, driver scoring and remote vehicle diagnostics and prognostics. The RAC Advance solution incorporates the company’s leading-


edge vehicle telematics technology in a range of solutions that include fl eet, insurance and breakdown applications. Under the terms of the agreement, the RAC will also become Risk Technology’s UK delivery partner to increase the service available to their existing clients. Risk Technology’s IP is embedded inside the matchbox-sized


devices. In addition the company is providing a full software solution and administration portal that integrates with the RAC’s system and processes as well as those of its partners. RAC members will be able to remotely communicate with base to


provide diagnostic information that could potentially identify certain vehicle faults before they result in a stressful or inconvenient breakdown. In addition members will be able to check multiple levels of performance and key information via an app on the driver’s phone or tablet. “The RAC chose Risk Technology due to its innovative IP position, its


expertise across a wide range of tracking disciplines and its ability to deliver”, said Kerry Michael, RAC commercial director. Risk Technology has been granted approval to use the ‘powered by RAC’ brand worldwide.
