Chapter Achievements
From the Field: Riverside March Field (Calif.) Chapter
Sarah Childress and Tally Reynoso each received a $2,000 scholarship from the Riverside March Field Chapter (www.moaa.org/chapter/riversidemarchfield). Childress, who also received a Navy ROTC scholarship, will attend Norfolk State University in Virginia. Reynoso, who is a cadet in a Marine Corps Junior ROTC program the chapter supports, will attend the University of Washington. Members’ donations funded the scholarships.

The chapter also has two designated scholarships through MOAA. One bears the chapter’s name, and the other honors late chapter leader Brig. Gen. Arthur E. Exon, USAF.

New York Council of Chapters
The New York Council of Chapters (www.nycocmoaa.org) and six of its chapters sponsored seven awards presented to cadets at a May 17 ceremony at the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School at West Point, N.Y. Southern Tier Chapter President Lt. Col. Peggy Phillips, USAR (Ret), and Lower Hudson Chapter member Lt. Col. Matt Clark, USA, who also is a member of national MOAA’s board of directors, presented the awards.

“These cadet candidates … are only at the beginning of their career as future military officers,” says Clark. “Consistent with MOAA’s mission, the award program recognizes excellence in officer and leader development at every stage of the officer’s career.”

Kitsap (Wash.) Chapter
The Kitsap Chapter (www.moaa-kitsap-online.org) honored four junior officers at its May 17 Armed Forces Day luncheon. Chapter President Carol Metney presented awards and certificates to Lt. Jeremiah Smith, USN; Lt. John Mackinnon, USCG; Lt. Jenique Keys, USN; and Lt. Cmdr. Wayne Lewis, USN, whose commands selected them to receive the honor. First Command Financial Planning in Silverdale, Wash., funded the awards.

Chapter members have presented awards for the past 36 years to thank outstanding junior officers for their service to our country.

Cape Cod (Mass.) Chapter
Six students received $1,500 scholarships from the Cape Cod Chapter (http://capecodmoaa.angelfire.com). Recipients Kayla Howe, Matthew Hunter Maher, Thomas Moakley, Meghan Richer, and Katherine Smith attended the chapter’s May 11 ceremony. Ashley Barattini, who was unable to attend, received her scholarship at the chapter’s June meeting.

The scholarship program helps students on Cape Cod and nearby islands. Recipients must have a close relative who has served honorably in one of the seven uniformed services.
