APPLE HAS revealed Logic Pro X and Logic Remote – a new way to play and control Logic Pro X from an iPad – giving musicians the flexibility to create and mix their music from anywhere in the room. Four years in the making,
Logic Pro X has been designed with a modern new look while preserving and expanding the power and features that professional users rely on. The streamlined interface provides access to advanced tools and functionality for more technical tasks, or can be hidden to allow musicians to focus on being creative. Flex Pitch helps users fix out-of- tune vocals and change the
melodies of recorded audio by manipulating individual notes within an audio waveform. Track Stacks lets you organise and collapse multiple tracks into one, or can be used to create rich, layered instruments. Smart Controls allow users to manipulate multiple plug-ins and parameters with a single move for quick and powerful sound design. An improved Mixer helps manage mix sessions more efficiently, with increased visibility into signal flow and dynamics and faster ways to manipulate channel inserts. Logic Pro X provides a collection of new creative tools for songwriting and music production including
Drummer, which delivers professionally produced, realistic drum tracks that respond to the user’s direction and can perform millions of unique grooves in rock, alternative, songwriter and R&B genres. Designed to work with Drummer, the new Drum Kit Designer plug-in enables the creation of custom kit using a diverse collection of professionally recorded snare drums, toms, hi-hats, and cymbals that can be mixed, matched, and fine tuned to get the right drum sound for a song. Logic Pro X expands Logic

instruments. The Arpeggiator is one of nine new MIDI plug-ins and can transform a simple keyboard chord into an elaborate performance. The new Retro Synth emulates popular classic synthesiser tones from the ’70s and ’80s, and Vintage Keyboards offer realistic models of electric pianos, B3 organs and clavs, with sophisticated tone-shaping
Amp Designer allows bass players to play and record using vintage and modern bass amps, with cabinets and microphones that can be configured to build a custom bass rig. Logic Pro X also features an entirely new Sound Library with an updated loop collection and over 1,500 instrument and effect patches that make use of Track Stacks, Smart Controls, the Arpeggiator and other new plug-ins.

Pro Tools PC Now Available Worldwide
THE BRAINCHILD of Pro Tools Expert’s resident Windows guru, Neil Hester, and Rain Computers UK’s Robin Vincent, the Pro Tools PC is the first computer designed to work seamlessly with Pro Tools. Hester and Vincent
worked together for a number of years at Carillon Audio Systems before moving on to pursue separate careers in music and technology. “It’s a bit like getting the old band back together and finding it works even better
than before,” commented Vincent. “What’s important is not that this is a computer ‘for’ Pro Tools, but rather that the Pro Tools PC hardware has been combined with an unheard-of attention to detail and end-user consideration in its design and compatibility testing. “This includes the support,
knowledge base, and dedication of the Pro Tools Expert team with years of experience supporting the wide community of Avid hardware and software users.” The Pro Tools PC ticks all the right boxes for Pro Tools

compatibility, including dual Thunderbolt sockets, room inside the case for HD TDM or HDX, fully- compatible FireWire chipset, and a water-cooled, rock- solid, stable overclocked processor that offers extraordinary recording and mixing power at very low latency; all housed in a beautiful, brushed aluminium 4U rack case. “There are a lot of factors
coming together right now that make this the perfect time for a dedicated Pro Tools PC platform,” added Hester. “The newly-
announced Apple Mac Pro’s lack of internal card slots has got a lot of OSX users considering a move to PC. The enormous release of Pro Tools 11 finally gives access to the full potential of a 64-bit system. “The Pro Tools PC’s studio-friendly rack- mounted design, internal capacity, and extensive connectivity (having been test proven in-house with a vast array of Avid and third- party interfaces) allows us to have almost every base covered.”

SONY’S SOUND Forge Pro 11 software for Windows comes with upgraded and new features including a redesigned recording interface that allows for one- touch recording; a plug-in chain interface that gives workspace access to every element of the plug-in processing environment; CALM Act-compliant metering; a new waveform display option; and broadcast wave file format enhancements. The new version of the

The new SpectraLayers Pro 2 offers enhanced performance for faster spectral graph explorations; a new shape tool; new frequency range display options; one-click noise extraction; new resampling and remixing options; and looping playback. The big story, however, is the interoperability of both products, which are now available as the Audio Master Suite.
