Safety & Security Single-door controller now offers proximity access I

ntegrated security solutions manufacturer TDSi has launched a new proximity version of its stand-alone access control system SOLOgarde. SOLOgarde is designed to offer the perfect blend of convenience and ease of use whilst maintaining excellent levels of intelligent security by enabling installation of the controller on the secure side of the door – offering a highly cost-effective way of securing a single door for up to 1,000 users. The stand-alone keypad offers simple but secure access control via a single reader/controller, with the flexibility of access approval through both proximity cards and keypad codes and the capacity for up to 1000 passwords and card holders - making it versatile enough for most stand-alone applications. Furthermore, SOLOgarde PROX is compatible with TDSi range of proximity readers, providing a choice of design and access methods. TDSi’s Managing Director, John Davies, commented: “The new Proximity version makes it much easier for approved users to quickly gain access, whilst maintaining stringent security control that is the core function of any secure access. It also offers greater flexibility for all users, for example it is well suited for disabled users, giving greater scope with regards to reaching for and using the reader from different heights and SOLOgarde can also be intelligently programmed so that access is granted for a longer period for users who may have more difficulty in moving rapidly into the restricted areas.”

Installation and commission of SOLOgarde is fast and easy, with the ability to install the unit in a standard MK-style electrical box. Set-up programming is accessed through a supplied card pack and a simple hand-held programming tool, which also delivers user and fault-finding information to the key holding security team. To keep the system fully up to date, its firmware can be flash upgraded to ensure it is kept abreast of the latest improvements and features.

St Paul’s Academy shapes up security with Mul-T-Lock

St Paul’s Academy has used Mul-T-Lock’s innovative Code It handle with integrated electronic technology to ensure the security of its fitness suite and offer convenient and keyless access for staff, pupils and visitors. London based St Paul’s Academy is a sports, business and enterprise specialist and works hard to incorporate these features into the day to day life of its students.

The Academy has invested in a state of the art gym that is available for use by the local community, during and outside of school hours. And to ensure high quality security is maintained, Mul-T-Lock’s Code It handle has been installed within the Academy, by local locksmiths AW Keil Ltd.

Says Terry Grant, Premises Manager of St Paul’s Academy: “The Academy has invested significantly in the fitness suite to encourage students, staff and the wider community to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The facility now accommodates many ‘out of school clubs,’ but for this to operate successfully and safely, we had to source a security solution that offered keyless access, which we could manage. “Code It was the perfect solution because it looks just like a handle, but means we can just give visitors a pin that can be changed as often as we like. It really is simple to use, an innovative system and its flexibility is great. We are already looking at more areas to install Code it throughout the Academy.”

May 2013

Code-It requires no electrical wiring and is equipped with a user-friendly code based mechanism, which is incorporated into the handle itself and allows up to nine personal entry codes.

Code-It is securely fixed from the inside of the door, preventing removal from the outside. For safety the internal handle will always allow free egress.

Darren Griffiths of AW Keil Ltd added: “We recommended Code-It because it’s such as simple and instant way to achieve all the benefits of an electromechanical solution, without the need for any secondary locking unit. Designed to enable conveniently controlled access to any door, it can handle high useage passage doors such as the gym entrance point here at St Paul’s Academy.” When not in passage mode, the Code It handle can be easily relocked, thus returning it to a “code to access” digital door lock. Code-It is available in both right and left- hand versions in a stainless steel finish with a satin chrome trim. The handle is CE marked and conforms to the mechanical requirements of EN1906.

Kevin Menzies, Sales Manager of Mul-T-Lock added: “The Government’s aims to encourage sharing of local facilities within a community is increasingly causing security issues, as access has to be handed out to a wide variety of visitors, and it becomes difficult to manage.

With Code-It, this problem is solved as codes can be handed out, and amended as often as required. For St Paul’s Academy, its great benefit is it looks like any other door handle, making the fitness suite just as accessible but with enhanced security.”

Code-It is one of a number of high performance products offered in the Mul-T-Lock security range.
