ICT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS…

If you’re finding your school increasingly pushed for space when it comes to computing, perhaps you need to rethink your desk options

As you would expect, Folio offers a free design and quotation service, which includes a site demonstration and layout drawings for your proposed classroom along with the quotation. “We have used the Compu-desk3 range of computer desks from Folio for our last five projects,” says M. Pickering, of Dartford Grammar School For Girls, “the latest being the fit out of our food technology rooms. Folio’s desking solution works, is easy to use and makes the classrooms multifunctional.” It’s not just schools that have been impressed by Folio, either – the company is the biggest supplier of dual-purpose desks being used by the MOD, with over 100 installations to date. So if your lack of computer classrooms is causing you a headache, why not give Folio a call and talk through your options with the experts?

A

s computer science and ICT move ever closer to the heart of the curriculum – and funding for the improvement of school buildings and facilities becomes more scarce – many educational establishments are finding themselves in the same position: distinctly short of specialised computer classrooms. Luckily, there is an answer – because with the right furniture, you can create genuinely dualpurpose classrooms and maximise the space you have. Folio has installed its Compu-Desk3 dualpurpose computer desks for more than 250 schools across the UK, with many of them coming back term after term to transform further classrooms using the Folio desk solution.

Fast and flexible

Folio can turn any standard classroom into a computer suite in a matter of minutes. The cleverly designed desks come complete with power sockets and power cables as standard, incorporated in a secure compartment at the base of the desk – so you don’t have to worry about tripping over trailing leads.

Folio’s desks will take all standard PCs and screens, so there’s no need to pay out for new hardware. In fact Folio has a solution for most computers and screens, including desks to take all different sizes of iMacs from the 20.5” to the 27” screen. Desks are available to take most all-inone PCs, too – you just need to let the company know what you’re after. From as small as 600mm x 600mm up to 1200mm x 600mm, Folio’s desks come in many shapes and sizes – and you can cater for group work just as easily using the sixpence desk as well as the new quad desk. Folio desks come in two different heights: 640mm high for primary schools and 740mm high for the secondary and adult market.

“So far we have used Folio desks for three projects at the school: two language lab refurbishments and one music room. The finished rooms have been a huge success with students, in particular the music room, which due to clever desk design by Folio, turned one of the smallest rooms in the school into a functioning music computer room.” Sara Taylor, facilities manager, Aylesbury High School
