VSW is currently one of the world’s
largest manufacturers of forged railway wheels including steel-making and wheel- rolling shops. Total automation, process improvements, and equipment repair man- agement have helped the VSW to increase its annual output to 850 000 wheels. In recent years, OMK has invested about $100 million in the modernization of its wheel-rolling facilities. Under the OMK Integrated Investment Program for the Period Ending 2015, the Com- pany plans to make large investments in the development of VSW wheel-rolling business and new wheels. Works seeks to streamline existing rail- way wheel solutions, as well as develop and implement innovative designs. The engineers of the ETC use advanced soft- ware and hardware to analyze wheel designs for impact of various operating factors and develop unique products that meet international standards and cus- tomized requirements.
OMK specialists develop and test ad- vanced wheel solutions jointly with lead- ing domestic and international research centres, including for heavy freight, high- speed passenger and metro trains. As examples of recent products, this

developed and implemented new steel grades for passenger coach wheels and new steel grade and con- striction for metro trains in Russia
began to start developing the pro- duction of wheels for high speed trains in conjunction with Russian Railways and Siemens; As a wheel supplier, OMK has a strong presence in many countries, including the USA, Canada, Europe (Slovakia, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Serbia, Slovenia), India, Jordan, South Korea. America, India, and Eastern and Central Europe. VSW makes extensive certifi - cation efforts, annually obtaining 2 or 3 new certifi cates from national railroads. VSW has put into operation an NDT acceptance line for automatic quality testing, making it possible to enhance wheel quality. This has been certifi ed to ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, and OHSAS 18001:2007. OMK and VSW received the IRIS Certifi cate in 2012. The high quality of OMK wheels has been found acceptable by the Amer- ican, European, and Russian railroads. VSW never stops working on new types of wheels for different regions, including design and technology devel- opment for its new products. This year VSW developed new wheel designs for the American, Indian, and European railroads. Owing to its strenuous efforts in non-CIS markets in OMK was award- ed contracts for the supply of wheels to India and Eastern European countries. At present, the VSW Wheel-Rolling Facilities are fully equipped for the mass production of new generation wheels with enhanced properties for freight and passenger cars, including wheels with improved wear resistance, and wheels for modern vehicles with axle loads of 25 to 30 tonnes.
