ENTERPRISE PLC has been snapped up by Amey’s parent group Ferrovial for £385M, creating an enlarged group with a £2.3B turnover and 21,000 employees. The acquisition of


Enterprise will enable Amey to respond to the demands of the industry, offering long-term value to customers through enhanced capabilities and a broader provision of services. Enterprise is now being integrated into Amey to create a diverse business with revenues of more than £2.3B; and a combined order book of £8.2B. Its two largest sectors will be UK utilities, with a 22% share, as well as roads and rail, where its share is 39%. With customers including Severn Trent Water and United Utilities, Enterprise’s activities cover water, power, gas and defence, as well as government services. The water business accounts for £224M of its turnover. Enterprise has incorporated Byzak into the business following its acquisition of the company in October 2011. Enterprise says Byzak has expanded its client base and increased its capability to cover a range of multidisciplinary design, engineering and construction projects.


For the first half of 2012, Enterprise said revenue was 8% higher at £616.3M compared with the same period in 2011. Operating profit increased by more than 12% to £29.9M


Its order book was “a healthy £2.8B”, excluding contract extensions and the pipeline of opportunities is in of excess of £12B.


Business highlights during the half-year included the acqusition of Severn Trent Water Metering Services, which carries out meter installations for domestic and commercial customers; meter maintenance; and battery exchange for electronic meters.


The addition of this business built on Enterprise’s existing capabilities in the electricity, gas and smart meter markets.
