International Hardware and DIY Exhibition FERROFORMA-BRICOFORMA 2013

13,000 TRADE VISITORS TO THE EVENT Innovation and internationalization are the two words that

have defined the commercial set-up for the 20th Ferroforma/Bricoforma trade show, held at Bilbao Exhibition Centre on March 12-15. This landmark event, commemorating 40 years of activity against the background of hard times for the market, was highly rated by the 13,000 trade visitors who attended it. Exhibitors, manufacturers and distributors, also rated the event as satisfactory in view of the deals concluded in the course of the week. Visitors came to the event from 61 countries, and from all

Spain’s regional autonomous communities, including Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands, the UK, Belgium, Turkey, Algeria, Morocco, Mexico, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Sudan and Cyprus. The most popular exhibits were hand tools and power tools,

locksmith, fittings, handles, strongboxes and mailboxes, industrial supplies and woodworking machinery & accessories.

FOREIGN BUYERS AND SECTORAL SUPPORT All Spain’s main purchasing groups, co-operatives and superstores attended Ferroforma-Bricoforma 2013. All these organisations, from the hardware, DIY and

industrial supplies areas, including ToolBUSINESS+HIRE Magazine played an active part in the campaign to attract visitors to the event. For this year’s show groups of foreign buyers were co-ordinated in 39 countries: Germany, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada,

Chile, Cyprus, Colombia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, France, the Netherlands, Iran, Israel, Italy, Jordan, the Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Poland, Portugal, the UK, the Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic, South Africa, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, Uruguay and Venezuela. 45% of the trade visitors registered for the event were company managers or directors, and 15% department heads.

LEADING BRANDS FROM 26 COUNTRIES Over the four days of Ferroforma/Bricoforma 2013 362 firms

presented their products including leading domestic brands in hardware, DIY and industrial supplies, and front-line companies from 26 countries. In percentage terms the main areas were those of industrial supplies

and construction supplies (31%), hand tools, electrical machinery and woodworking machinery (25%), locksmith and iron fittings (11%), hardware & household items (10%), climate control, decoration, electricity & gardening (9%), fixings (6%) and trade services and equipment.

€10 MILLION IN REVENUE FOR THE REGION The four days of the actual Ferroforma/Bricoforma event plus the

two weeks of erection and dismantling work associated with it are calculated to have brought in over €10 million in revenue for the area around the BEC, mainly for the Basque Autonomous Community. 69% of that revenue is accounted for by hotels and restaurants, 15% by direct trade-show activities, 12% by transport and 4% by retail trade. These calculations do not include the knock-on activities generated by Ferroforma/Bricoforma for exhibitors and visitors.
