Financial news HS grinding debuts in China Australia


Mermec, Italy, has secured a contract with Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) to supply five systems to measure catenary geometry and wear, track geometry, rail profile and structure clearance and Ramsys, the company’s system to ease data review and trend calculation.


Britain


ATC, a joint venture of Alstom, TSO, and Costain has been selected as preferred bidder for a contract to fit out 21km of tunnels for London’s Crossrail project, the final major construction contract for


the core section of the route.  Rolling stock leasing company Porterbrook has awarded Vossloh Kiepe a £40m contract to supply IGBT traction equipment for 91 class 455 emus used by South West Trains on commuter services from London Waterloo.


China C


RM-Vossloh Track Maintenance, a joint


venture of Vossloh Rail Services and CRM, China, has secured a contract with the operator of the Beijing - Shanghai high-speed line to provide its High Speed Grinding (HSG) service. Vossloh says a HSG-2 train specially built for operation in China is now en route and will begin operations in the second quarter of this year.

ASSENGER Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) has


awarded a Bombardier-led consortium a Rand 1.1bn ($US 122m) contract to carry out resignalling of MetroRail KwaZulu Natal commuter lines in the Durban area. The project will be implemented by the Bombardier Africa Alliance, which includes ERB Technologies, Basil Read, Bakara Engineering, R&H Railway Consultants, SIMS, and Tractionel. Bombardier’s share of the contract is worth around Rand 318m. The contract is Bombardier’s first major signalling deal with

Vossloh says HSG’s ability to grind rail at speeds of up to 80km/h, compared with the 5-15km/h of conventional grinding equipment, and operate in between timetabled traffic was particularly attractive to the Chinese operator which wants to minimise disruption on the line which carries the equivalent of 400 million tonnes of traffic per year on some sections


Durban area resignalling contract awarded


Prasa and covers 42 stations and 120km of double-track and includes supply, installation, and commissioning of Bombardier’s Interflo 200 technology with Ebi Lock 950 computer-based interlocking and Ebi Screen 900 local central traffic control (CTC). Fibre-optic cabling and voice radio are also being installed as part of the project. Resignalling will be


completed in 2017, coinciding with the introduction of Prasa’s new emu fleet, and will allow the network to carry around 700,000 passengers per day, with minimum headways reduced to 2.5 minutes.


AnsaldoBreda and Chongqing Chuanyi Automation (SICC) have established a joint venture worth É6.3m to produce and develop electric traction systems, auxiliary services and train monitoring control systems for metro trains in China.


France


French National Railways (SNCF) has awarded Thales a four-year contract to maintain ticket validation equipment on the Transilien suburban network in Paris and surrounding departments.


Morocco


Moroccan National Railways (ONCF) has awarded Ansaldo STS and Cofely Ineo, France, a É120m contract to design and supply telecommunications, signalling and train control systems for the 183km Tangiers - Kénitra high-speed


line.  ONCF is taking delivery of 20 new GT26CW-3 CoCo diesel electric locomotives from National Railway Equipment Company, United States, which are being built in Europe by TVZ Gredelj in Zagreb. The first four units

were delivered in mid-March with most to be used for freight services, although five will haul passenger trains in the east of the country.


Portugal


MSC, the world’s second largest shipping line, has indicated that it might be interested in the privatisation of CP Cargo ahead of a June deadline to privatise freight container movement.


South Africa


Transnet Engineering is developing a prototype 1067mm-gauge shunting and short-trip locomotive designed for African operations which it hopes will boost locomotive sales outside of its domestic market.


Sweden


Hector Rail, which provides traction services to other operators, has acquired 42 type ICK 200km/h coaches from Netherlands Railways (NS) leasing subsidiary NS Financial Services.


Switzerland


Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) posted consolidated net income of SFr 422.5m ($US 452.7m) in 2012, an increase year-on-year of 24.7%. Operating revenues came to SFr 8.17bn while Ebit fell by 7.3% to SFr 491m due to lower demand for passenger services


and higher train path prices.  The Stadler Rail Group is reducing its workforce at its factory in Altenrhein for the first time as a result of a falling order book caused by the debt crisis in Europe and the consequent increase in the value of the Swiss Franc. Over the next three months 60 out of 960 staff will be cut.


United States


The Greenbrier Companies secured orders worth $US 575m for 5400 freight wagons of various types in the first


quarter of 2013.  Bombardier has secured a $US 195m, 10-year contract commencing in spring 2014 with the Florida Department of Transportation to provide operations and maintenance services for SunRail. IRJ
