USSIAN car builder Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) and its partner Bombardier unveiled models of a new metro train and a new LRV which they are developing jointly for Russia at the Hannover Fair on April 8. UVZ won a contract last December to supply Moscow City Transport Agency with 120 low-floor Flexity LRVs (pictured top).

Paris Transport Authority (RATP) opened the French capital’s 303rd metro station on March 23 with the inauguration of the ƒ185.3m extension of Line 4 to Mairie de Montrouge. The 1.5km extension from Porte de Orléans is expected to boost ridership on the line by around 37,900 per day.

“Our partnership with Bombardier Transportation, which started last year, has already brought its first results,” says Mr Oleg Sienko, general director of UVZ. UVZ and Bombardier have agreed to design a high- capacity metro train for Moscow Metro (pictured right), which plans to launch a tender soon. The train will feature some of Bombardier’s latest technologies such as Flexx bogies, and Mitrac propulsion and control equipment.
“By joining forces with UVZ, we can offer the most advanced trams and metro trains for Russia,” says Mr Laurent Troger, president rolling stock Atlantic and services with Bombardier.

News, the KSU’s Agency for Projects and Egis Rail are developing a transport plan for the site, and the project will be presented in the next university budget. The line will be integrated with the planned Riyadh metro network, and KSU says an interchange between the two systems could be built at King Abdullah Road, although the route has yet to be finalised. A survey of transport habits by the university found that most staff and students spend 85% of their time on site walking, while only 2% use bus services.

DB wins Hamburg S-Bahn concession D
B REGIO subsidiary S-Bahn Hamburg is set to continue operating the Hamburg S-Bahn network beyond the expiry of its current contract in 2018 after winning the concession to run the system until 2033. The contract requires the partial renewal of the S-Bahn fleet and also states clearly that S-Bahn Hamburg will be obliged to sell the entire fleet to the City of Hamburg in 2033 if a different operator is selected to operate the network. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has signed a $S 119m ($US 96m) contract for a second batch of 45 Movia C951 metro cars from Changchun Bombardier Railway Vehicles (CBRC), China. Delivery of the additional vehicles will begin in 2016, following on from the initial batch of 73 trains.
Sydney
The City of Sydney has allocated an additional $A 40m ($US 41.4m) towards the 12km Circular Quay - Central Station light rail line, taking its total commitment to the project to $A 220m.

Commercial services began on March 16 on the 1.5km link between Daikanyama and Shibuya in Tokyo, completing the connection between Fukutoshin metro line and suburban lines to the south- west of the city. The new line replaces an existing viaduct and runs underground, passing beneath the JR Yamanote Line and entering the new Shibuya station, where it connects with the Fukutoshin Line. Shibuya station has two island platforms, which can accommodate 10-car trains.
Warsaw
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has agreed to lend Warsaw Metro Zlotys 1bn ($US 313.5m) to support construction of the 6.7km central section of Line 2 between Ptocka and Szwedzka. The loan will support the expansion of the existing Kabaty depot, as well as installation of train control, telecommunication and fare collection systems. IRJ
