BOMA BESt
BESt is the acronym for ‘Building Environmental Standards’. The BOMA BESt environmental program provides certification to buildings and facilities and helps building owners benchmark against an accepted industry performance standard. It also identifies ways of improving how buildings are managed and operated from an energy and environmental perspective. BOMA Canada launched BOMA BESt version 2 this year.
Since inception in 2005, the program has evolved substantially to keep pace with industry trends and best practices. Some of the changes include:
• Revised building assessments for four types of commercial properties including Offices, Open Air Retail plazas, Shopping Centres, and Light Industrial buildings.
• Addition of Multi-Unit Residential Building (MURB) assessment module.
• Updated references to industry standards and other helpful resources.
• Expanded explanations for program requirements.
• Transparency of points allocated for each measure.
