Davis, White named USOC Team of the Month
Meryl Davis and Charlie White,
following their second World title, concluded their undefeated season in March by receiving Team of the Month honors from the United States Olympic Committee (USOC). At the World Championships,
Davis and White earned world record scores for their short dance, while their free dance earned positive grades of execution on every element, with more than half earning a Level 4. They earned a personal-best 189.56 points at the event and are the only U.S. ice dancing team to win a World Championship title, winning gold in both 2011 and 2013. Each month, the USOC names a
male athlete, female athlete and team of the month. Each national governing body may nominate one female, one male and one team per discipline. A voting panel selects the winners from the pool of nominees, with online fan voting via Twitter accounting for 10 per- cent of the total vote. This is the fourth time Davis and White have earned the honor, taking the USOC’s Team of the Month in December 2009, December 2010 and April 2011.
Marigold IceUnity, Shibutanis headline Ice Chips show
The Finnish synchronized skating team
Marigold IceUnity and 2011 World bronze medalists Maia and Alex Shibutani guest starred in The Skating Club of Boston’s 101st Ice Chips show on April 13–14. The club touts a roster of stars among
its own membership; 2013 U.S. pairs cham- pions Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir were in Japan for the World Team Trophy and unable to appear, but Christina Gao, Yasmin Siraj, Ross Miner, Stephen Carriere, Harrison Choate, Gretchen Donlan and Andrew Sper- off , Anastasia Cannuscio and Colin McManus, and Isabella Cannuscio and Michael Braman- te all performed. The show, produced and directed by Tim
LeBlanc, featured a beautiful set of curved fabric panels that served as screens for light- ing and video. The opening number, per- formed by the club’s impressive roster, intro- duced the theme of “Exploring Life on Earth.” Miner was debonair in Sinatra’s “Luck Be
A Lady.” Carriere landed a perfect triple Axel, triple Lutz and triple toe in his Sam Cooke program. Marigold IceUnity performed twice, presenting their Dreamgirls and Chess pro- grams. The Shibutanis skated to “Lost” and to “Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better.” Alex Shibutani was born in Boston and

said. “Every time I come back it’s like a home- coming for me. A lot of my friends are here. We’re so excited that nationals is going to be here. It’s the perfect city, the perfect venue for the championships when the national spot- light will be turned to our sport in prepara- tion for the Olympic Games.” Proceeds from the show benefi t, in part,
