antracker had to follow a difficult path to her Cana- dian/International Championship. As a Paint racer in Ontario, she had very few opportunities to compete. When she did enter the starting gate, she had to face Quarter Hors- es, and she always gave a good account of herself. “She’s a very strong filly and made her way through it,” said
Dr. Guylaine Paquin, who bred Mantracker in Ontario and raced her there. “As a Paint, she wasn’t eligible for the Ontar- io-bred stakes. They actually had to rewrite the rulebook to allow her to race in the Lady of the Lake Stakes.” Guylaine credited trainer Greg Watson with Mantracker’s successful season. He took over the filly’s training for 2012 after the death of the filly’s initial trainer, Sandra Laszlo. “His wife works right alongside him, and they are great people,” Guylaine said. Mantracker began her 3-year-old season in 2012 at Ajax Downs, winning three races and finishing second once there in seven starts against Quarter Horses. “She was a fan favorite at Ajax,” Guylaine said. “She’s high- ly colored, and the camera was always on her.”
The circuit then moved to nearby Fort Erie. Watson worked with Racing Secretary Eric Johnson to change the rules so that Mantracker could compete in the Lady of the Lake, a 350-yard stakes for 3-year-old Quarter Horse fillies. Sent away at odds of more than 24-1 in the Lady of the Lake, Mantracker came on late to grab second, just a neck behind winner Miracle Empress (QH) and a nose in front of Quiteasassystrawbery (QH) in third.
Mantracker earned $31,736 for the season and the Cana- dian/International Championship. Though Guylaine would have liked to continue racing the filly, the limited opportuni- ties have sent Mantracker to a new career as a barrel racer. “She’s very, very athletic,” Guylaine said.
Guylaine might eventually breed Mantracker once she fin- ishes as a barrel racer. Her dam, Treasure Winner, produced 2008 Champion Aged Stallion FF Easy Doz It and several other good runners.
“What I love about Paints is that they are very sound and have good minds,” Guylaine said.
