machickenkicker began her racing career in 2012 as the half-sister to World Champion Flashthechicks. The filly by Dos Poruno ended the year as a champion in her own right, nabbing the Champion Solid Paint-Bred 2-Year-Old and Solid Paint-Bred 2-Year-Old Filly titles. Much of the credit for that belongs to owner-breeder Shirley Wheeler of Boynton, Oklahoma, her husband Jim, and trainer Luis Villafranco. They gave Imachickenkicker the time to recover from a stress fracture earlier in the year, which allowed the filly to finish the season in cham- pionship fashion.

Imachickenkicker began her career at Remington Park, and while she ran second and won in two trials, she didn’t perform well in the finals. After she ran sixth in the PSBA American Paint Classic Futurity, Luis X-rayed her legs and discovered the stress fracture. “We just brought her home and laid her up for two months,” Shirley said. “When we took her back to Luis, we X-rayed her again.”
Those X-rays showed that the stress fracture had healed
nicely. Imachickenkicker jumped shadows in her first race back, but then she put everything together. “She got lined out and doing well,” Shirley said. “She got to clicking, and she finished the year really strong.” Third in the Tulsa State Fair Stakes, Imachickenkicker rounded out her season by capturing the Pot O’ Gold Futurity at Will Rogers Downs and the Lone Star Speed- horse Paint and Appaloosa Futurity. In the Pot O’ Gold, she ran 400 yards in :19.69 for a 103 speed index, defeat- ing even-money favorite and future champion Lajollas Mr Big Stuff by a half-length. In the Lone Star Speedhorse Futurity, she overcame a bump at the start to win by a half-length again.
Those two victories brought Imachickenkicker’s earn- ings to $83,007, sixth highest among all Paint racehors- es for the year. The Wheelers are looking forward to her 3-year-old season in 2013.
