$750,000 for seminaries The ELCA’s Eastern Cluster of Lutheran Seminaries (Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia and Lutheran Theo- logical Southern Seminary, Colum- bia, S.C./Lenoir-Rhyne University, Hickory, N.C.) received a $375,000 gift from the estate of Dorothy Mar- ple and a $375,000 grant from the Lilly Endowment. Marple, an assis- tant to the presiding bishop of the former Lutheran Church in America, played a key role in the ELCA’s for- mation. The Marple Living Memo- rial Endowment Fund will provide annual funding for the cluster and the seminaries to provide classes on ecu- menism. The Lilly grant will fund the third phase of the cluster’s 7-year-old Project Connect, which has helped thousands of young adults discern their vocation and develop leader- ship skills.
Aid for refugees As winter storms worsened condi- tions for those living in the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan, the ELCA sent $100,000 to the Lutheran World Federation, which is managing the camp in cooperation with Jordanian 10
