Pete has a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge around shop location planning, local marketing, eCommerce management, SEO and online marketing, business development and affiliate schemes. Since starting SocialRetail.co.uk, Pete has worked with huge retail brands including Hilliers Garden Centre and Mortimers Chocolate. Pete also works with The Henley Business school teaching Retail Marketing Directors the importance of Social Media and Social Media management

Seminar Two: Mark Fanthrope, Owner of The Retail Design Consultancy ­ Umbrella


Mark Fanthorpe, owner of retail design consultancy Umbrella believes that the British high street is in need of a refresh. He feels that in a bid to offer broad appeal and attract the largest possible audience, many of our high street shops have become bland, boring and a bit soulless. He feels that this is part of the reason that shoppers are turning off from the high street and heading online. He believes that the retail winners of tomorrow will be those that can create a more tailored shopping experience for today’s more discerning shopper. He would like to see shopping environments that offer an immersive experience that draws the customer in through the creation of a deep emotional connection with the ethos of the brand. He believes that this can be achieved through shop fits that put the product at the heart of the design.


“Brand Evolution Vs Revolution: How to Create Retail Environments that deliver Long­Term Profits”


In today’s fast moving market place, brands have got to be constantly innovating in order to stay relevant and exciting. In this talk, Mark Fanthorpe, will discuss: • The barriers to change and why they hurt retailers • Why he feels consistent brand innovation is preferable to intermittent wholesale change • How to maintain the balance between preserving the brand feel and offering a new look


Seminar Three: Robert Hudson, CEO of the National Association of Shopfitters


Robert Hudson has been in the Construction Industry for 35 years and for the last fifteen years in the specific sector of Shopfitting and Interior Contracting. Robert joined the National Association of Shopfitters in 2005 as its Director. In 2007 Robert was one of the main drivers behind the setting up of the Shopfitting Independent Training Forum the corner stone of which was to provide a cradle to the grave concept in lifelong learning for all stakeholders in this specialist industry sector. As well as maintaining and growing the existing second year NAS Apprentice Design Prize Award Robert has developed and from 2012 will be known as the “John Rabey Award” for the second year apprentice within Shopfitting and interior contracting who will have designed and manufactured a pre­selected piece. In 2008 with the aid of major stakeholder Construction Skills Robert instigated the inaugural award for and apprentice in his or her final year of training.
